Frequently Asked Questions

What guarantee does Four Pawz offer?

We offer a 3 day health guarantee on any animal we sell. Most illnesses incurred while with the breeder would show up by this time because of the short incubation period of diseases and viruses. This also enables the buyer to take the purchased animal to their own veterinarian for a check up. Whether you opt to ship or pick up your exotic, it will still be sold with a current health certificate from a certified veterinarian. Our guarantee does not include such things as: accidents, the animal being stressed, not feeding the recommended diet or suddenly changing the diet of a baby, or negligence on the part of the purchaser(s). If the animal can be treated by a vet we will not refund the purchase price or pay any vet bills incurred. As soon as you feel something is wrong, call the vet immediately and then let us know at your earliest convenience. If the animal was shipped and when you pick it up at the airport it appears injured, you must tell a representative of that airline of your concerns before you leave the airport. This way they cannot say it was fabricated. Make sure they document it, also.

How do I know if the animal is legal where I live?

To check your state laws, click on “state laws” on the home page. To check your local laws, click on “local laws” on the home page. These websites are not updated daily and new laws are always being enacted, so we would also recommend that you call your fish and game or department of natural resources and also your local municipality to make sure nothing has changed. If you are required to have permits or licenses, then you will have to obtain them before we can sell you an exotic.

Does Four Pawz ship?

Yes, through US Air. Shipping charges are $225.00. This includes a health certificate, airline costs, and an airline approved kennel for shipping the animal in. The day that you are to receive your animal we will call you as soon as the animal is dropped off at the airport. At this time we will give you your flight number and airbill number and will tell you the estimated arrival time. It would be a good idea to call the airport where you are picking up your exotic and let them know an exotic is coming in today. Ask the representative that you speak to where you are to come to pick up the animal. Each airport seems to be different; some have you pick them up at cargo, some at the counter and some at lost baggage. When you go to the airport it would be wise to take a clean crate or box with clean towels or blankets in it because sometimes the animals get scared from all the new noises and smells while being shipped and they tend to make a mess in their crates and on themselves; sometimes they need bathed when they get to their new home. The other thing you need to take to the airport is a bottle if the animal is still being bottle fed because he/she will be very hungry!! You can also pick up your exotic at our facility.

How do I care for the animal I am buying?

We offer caresheets on our website that serve as a guide to care for your exotic. Go to the caresheets page and then click on the animal of your choice. We strongly recommend you also do searches on the web to gain as much info as you can.

Will my pet get mean when it gets older?

Any animal can get mean, even a dog. Animals who are given lots of attention when very small and also when growing up usually stay pet quality. They can get aggressive when they become sexually mature, when it is breeding season, or if it is a female with babies. When the babies are removed the female will gradually become tame again; the same with breeding, when mating season is over the animal will calm down. This is exactly why we stress spaying or neutering when the animal is young for those that are going to be pets only. This greatly reduces sexual anxiety and stress in the animals and helps to keep them tame. When your animal becomes adult size and you just stick it in a pen in your back yard and never interact with it anymore the same will happen as happens to dogs that are penned or tied up with no interaction; they can become resentful and mean. Being in a pen outside is very beneficial to them, but consistent attention and interaction are also very important to keep your exotic tame and sweet.
