The Music Room

Welcome to my music room! There are three main areas here. The area which is directly in front of you is the 'playing' area, where you can investigate the various types of instruments and ensembles - both traditional and more contemporary.

  Music:
  1. Any combination of sounds and words, akin to noise and cacophony, produced (intentionally or by accident) by musicians (also, though rarely, by singers).
2. The printed form of obscure hieroglyphics, squiggles, scrawls and blots that purport to tell the musician how to produce the desired noise. It may be (a) illegible, (b) boring, (c) too difficult, or (d) any combination thereof. The production of music follows three stages.
    It is:
1. set down by the composer
2. Interpreted (incorrectly) by the conductor and
3. Ignored by the performers and audience.

A Musician's Dictionary / by David W. Barber; cartoons by Dave Donald (Toronto: Sound And Vision, 1997)

To your left you can see the sheaves of music in the racks for you to choose from, and on the shelves over there is also literature regarding all aspects of musicianship, composition and music appreciation, as well as some criticism and journals.
If you're not sure about reading music, have a look at this book, it should help you a bit...

Finally, the third area over to your right, is dedicated to the aural side of things, (as you might have guessed from the shelves of CDs and vinyl covering the walls!) information, download hints, what to buy and where, etc.

I do hope you enjoy yourself in here, and I'll leave you to find your own way around, but do yell if you have any problems.
