This is my father's family tree and
I have been very lucky in being able to find all of these names. I found them using two
main methods. The first method was talking to older family members and listening to family
stories and also family jokes. An example of the joke in our family is that one of
my ancestors was a "man" before she was a woman, her surname was
"MANN". All of these sorts of stories can help in the search. The other main
method I used was Family History Centres run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints and a local genealogy society. These places are invaluable tools to all
researchers.
I have been able to trace my father's family back to Ayrshire in Scotland and also to a
number of places in England. Namely Norfolk, Northumberland and Manchester. Please

My Father, Alfred Robert Turner, passed away on the 9th of August and was laid
to rest on the 13th of August, he was 74 years old. Those left behind are his wife, 3 children, 1 stepdaughter, and 11 grandchildren who will all miss him. Dad, I love you. May your light continue to shine through us.

Notes for SARAH WATERS:
Sarah Waters was born some time during 1815 in Abergavenny, Wales. Her parents were listed as farmers and in 1832 she was employed as a Farm Servant at Brecon, Wales. In March 1832 she was convicted of stealing poultry and was sentenced to two months hard labour for the offence. A second offence of amore serious nature occurred in the same year and on the 16th of October 1832, she was found guilty of stealing wearing apparel (a gown). She was sentenced to 7 years transportation for this offence.
Her Convict Record indicates that she is 17 years old, single and describes her as 5ft 3 and 1/2 inches tall with fair complexion, brown hair and dark grey eyes. She has a round head, a small nose and chin with no particular distinguishing features or defects. Her initial Goal Report stated that she was a very bad character (probably because of the earlier offence) but had behaved very well during her confinement and is of a very cheerful disposition. She could read but not write and her shipboard character during the voyage to Van Diemens Land is described as that of a good girl.
Sarah was one of 115 female convicts transported on the ship Jane II which sailed from Torbay on 22nd February 1833. The voyage took 128 days arriving in Hobart Town on 30th June 1833 and after the normal processing procedures, the women disembarked on 4th July 1833. She would have been housed in the Female Factory at Cascades pending assignment. On the 12th July she was assigned to a Lieutenant Davis, no additional information regarding the details or duration of this assignment are available at this time.
However the next official mention of Sarah is on the 10th September 1835 with the lodgement of a Petition to the Governor for permission to marry William Turner. This was subsequently approved and they were married on the 9th November 1835 at Trinity Church, County of Buckingham, Hobart Town.

Notes for Amelia Turner:
Amelia was born in Hobart Town in 1842. She married a Publican, George Free in Geelong in 1859 and had 14 children, including a couple of sets of twins, who sadly didn't survive-she raised nine. Most of the Geelong Turner's departed in the early 1860's; Willie (her brother) was running the family horse-cab business and did not live to rejoin the family group. The Free's lived in Ballarat, gold areas around Bendigo and, eventually moved to Mt Gambier SA where Amelia died in 1921, after 62 years of marriage. She was 78yrs old; George lived to 93 years. Her brother was obviously very dear to her-females descending from Amelia protected a photo of him for 140 years.

Mary Jane Mann was born at Brighton, Victoria in 1872. Her parents, Jonathan George and Mary Ann Mann were married in Northumberland, England in 1851,Mary Jane's parents (unlike Gilbert Noah's) chose to pay Passage to Australia, arriving on the sailing ship, "Oueen of the East" in 1858. They paid a painful price, losing their little 2 year old daughter, Elizabeth Ann, who died during the voyage and was buried at sea. Jonathan and Mary Ann both died in Patterson Place Sth Melb-Mary Ann at No 16 in 1897; Jonathan in 1913 at No 3.
