Another New History of Ethiopia Published October 30, 1998
Addis Ababa - The latest new history of Ethiopia to appear is by Dr. Richard Pankhurst.
Published by Blackwell Publishers, of Oxford, England, it forms one of their "Peoples of Africa" series. The volume, entitled "The Ethiopians", covers the entire period of Ethiopian history from Lucy to the fall of Mengistu Haile Mariam. There are thus chapters on such subjects as "Punt, Pharaohs and Ptolemies, the Aksumite Kingdom, and the Coming of Christianity"; "The Rise and Fall of Gondar"; and 'Beginnings of Modernisation: Menilek, Iyasu, Zawditu and Liberation".
The work also contains a wide range of illustrations. These include a photograph of the obelisks of Aksum, at the time of the celebration of St Mary of Tseyon; an engraving of Tewodros's capital of Maqdala in flames as a result of the Napier expedition of 1867-8; and a shot of Emperor Haile Sellassie addressing the League of Nations in 1936.
The book, in accordance with the Blackwell's policy for the series, concentrates mainly on central Ethiopia, and thus compliments the author's earlier book "The Ethiopian Borderlands", published by Red Sea Press last year.

Did you know that in the 10th century B.C., the biblical King Solomon fell in love with a beautiful African Queen? Guess Who? Answer: The Queen of Sheba. Do you know who established the country of Ethiopia? Answer: Their son, Menelik. What modern African Monarch traced his ancestors back to King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba? Answer: Heile Selassie.@1999+ webmaster * eFOOD * GeoAlaska * Film-North *
Janice L. Dennie began writing The Lion of Judah after reading an article in a news magazine about the war in Ethiopia. The article referred to His Imperial Majesty Heile Selassie as The Lion of Judah. After conducting some research, she found that The Conquering Lion of Judah, was the supreme ruler of Ethiopia who descended from Menelik, son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. The Lion of Judah ruling dynasty reigned over Ethiopia from the 10th Century B.C. until Heile Selassie's death in 1974. Heile Selassie was a modern day African monarch who traced his family history back 2000 years to the bible. Historical origins of the story of the Queen Sheba and King Solomon can be found in the Bible; I Kings chapter 10.Ms. Dennie is available for interviews. Her next book, entitled Moon Goddess, is a historical romance novel about King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. The setting is the ancient city of Axum, Ethiopia in the 10th century BC. The Queen of Sheba was a beautiful young woman who worshipped the moon. She captured the heart of King Solomon and bore his child. She has about six (6) more historical romance novels that take place in ancient Africa, and three (3) more that take place in early American history.
