INFORMATION:
During recent years the number of hobby, race- and showhorses has rapidly increased. Riding and horses is a wonderful hobby, which easily develop into a whole lifestile.
The nearness to the living horse and the nature is enticing for many, but it calls for great demands on knowledge and judement.
For many years the breeding of horses was a lucrative market. Horses were sold at high prices and the buyers were standing in line.When market reached saturation point not all breeders were aware of this Covering continued, the horses became to many and soon the costs were bigger than the income.
Competition on the racetracks hardened and the elimination of horses is increasing. Rejected race horses are sold as cheap hobby horses and do not always find the right owners. Many horses end at slaughter houses after a long period of circulation among ridetrs, horse dealers and horse markets.
In light of these facts The Swedish animal Welfare Society for Horses was founded in 1993 to guard the right of the Swedish horses to forage, care and stimulation.
The Swedish Animal Welfare Society for Horses is working in many different ways for the best of the Swedish horse:
- Trough infotmation about the needs of horse to prospective horse owners and those who already owns horses the organisation is working for good horse care.
- When something goes wrong the organisation helps and supports the horse owner.
- When neglect in care is revealed the organisation reports to concerned authorities or assists at urges reports of neglect . Anonymity is protected and the organisation can assist in guarding cases of neglect.
- The organisation supports authorities, offering knowledge and competence regarding horses.
- The organisation has resources for immediate care of unwanted or neglected horses for shorter or longer periods.
- The organisation can also arrange temporary homes, where the best care of the horses is guaranteed.
- The organisation opposes to all kinds of inferior breeding, dealing and handling of horses.
The main goal for The Swedish Animal Welfare Society for Horses is to secure a positive collaboration with animal care authorities, police and other concerned bodies.
