A Tribute To Andy Kaufman
This site is dedicated to one of the most influential entertainers of our time. His name is Andy Kaufman. I can honestly say that I have never seen anyone like this incredibly talented man, who was very misunderstood.
Mostly remembered for his role as Latka on the show TAXI, he was someone who never missed an opportunity to be peculiar. Even though he was classified by many as a stand-up comedian, Andy was not a comedian.
Of course, he could make people laugh if he wanted to, but Andy didn’t always want people to laugh. Sometimes he wanted people to get angry. Sometimes he wanted people to be sad. Sometimes, he wanted to bore the crap out of people.
Andy was a guy who never let you know what he was going to do next. One minute he was putting on a puppet play, the next minute he was simply just reading from a book??? In one show that he did, Andy crawled into a sleeping bag and went to sleep right on stage. Many people failed to see the point of his completely insane ideas. Even his own parents feared he was mentally ill.
It was all about experimenting with new ideas. Seeing how far he could take a joke, or how far he could push the tolerance of the audience members. Andy was very well known for the practical jokes that he played on everyone. Just when you thought he was finally being serious for a change, you quickly fell victim to one of his "put-ons." There was no limit to how far Andy would take a joke.
Unfortunatlely, Andy is no longer with us. In 1983, he discovered a lump on the back of his neck, which turned out to be cancer. Of course, most people just thought it was another one of his famous "Kaufman jokes",but in 1984, Andy Kaufman died.
