DaySpring Academy is a church school that offers a legal alternative for families who wish to homeschool. We are located in Central Alabama and offer our services to anyone in the state. DaySpring Academy is under the auspices of the Christian gathering we have in our home. The church which is Christ's body, which all believers belong to, is the only church we have membership in. We do not ask that families sign a statement of faith, join HSLDA or any legal group.
*Please read the following to find out more about the school*

Requirement:

Each family is asked to send me a progress report and an attendance report either twice a year or at the end of the year. This is for the transcript I keep for each child. This is a flexible report and can be done in many different ways. I willing to work with each family to decide what subjects will be listed for the year and offer some non- traditional means of learning. I also offer curriculum counseling for those who need help in those areas. I keep a transcript for each child and the parents are encouraged to keep one also. I will accept students at any time in the year, work with students who have quit and would like to finish high school, as well as a diploma to graduating students. If you would like to join a legal counseling group, I highly recommend Rutherford Institute for their stand on religious right to homeschool not just Christian right. They have helped the school in a couple of situations even though we are not members.

Philosophy:
We at DSA believe home education is a superior way for a student to learn by encouraging families to learn together with a common cause rather then being divided. We try and work with each family AS an individual family and help them become responsible for the learning process rather then a "system". Home education is NOT always textbooks, grading, grade levels, testing, lines, or questions and answers conveniently located at the end of book.... but a lifestyle that can be continued all thru life. Home education encourages a child to investigate, question, read, build, daydream, create and BE active in the process we see as learning. Even just staring into space promotes thinking!!!!! A child learning in a safe, encouraging, secure atmosphere will be able to think rather then be herded when older. This is what we want for our kids. I encourage each family to learn about the different methods of education and to talk with me about their ideas and develop their own style, goals and purpose for their family.

Other Services

We will have a Activities director this year that will line up field trips and organize activites that everyone is invited to join. We are in the process of offering co-op classes in the Chilton County area. I can give you the information for the SAT and ACT tests offered in your local high schools and tests for younger grades. We help parents form their own support groups and offer their own family outings. There are also many local support groups that families can be a part of for social activities regardless of church school membership.

Fees:

The tuition fee for the 1999-2000 school year is $65 a year for the whole family. This does not cover any books or curriculum. High school seniors will have an additional charge for the graduating process and diplomas.
We have a newsletter every 2 months that will have interesting websites, educational material offer's and helpful hints on learning. Please check out my other links at the bottom of the page!

I have many families who are on a limited or fixed income and need low cost curriculum and school supplies. If you finish with your books and would like to donate or sell to another family, please let me know.
