Hi ! My name is Alaine Handa and I am a big fan of Tara Lipinski and Michelle Kwan. I am a skater myself and have been skating for three years. I practice four times a week and have joined a lot of competitions. I am a senior in high school and juggling school, homework, dance classes, skating and time off with my friends. I do not have any dreams of becoming a professional skater but if I were to have skating as a career, I would like to be a skating choreographer. I have been dancing since I was four years old.

Hey ! School is just the pits and I have a lot of homework but not this weekend! (thank God) A few days ago I busted my knee really badly and I haven't been able to practice my jumps the way I normally do because I'm afraid I might re-injure it. I busted my knee doing the stupidest thing, I was walking to class and a jolt of pain shot up through my knee. I couldn't really walk properly for two days. Before I busted my knee I landed my double sal. and guess what! I got my axel back, well...sort of. I think my double toe has left me because I can't even go up into the air
properly. My double loop is fine, I can still do it so that's good. I've been practicing the flying camel and I can do like two rotations but it was better than the 1/2 rotation I started out with. Oh yeah, the last time I wrote in here was before my competition right? I came first for my artistic event, and third for the footwork event. I think I skated ok, not the best though. I had fun at the competition, goofing off with my friends. Ok, I have to go and write an essay for english class now so bye!
Sk8 Gr8 !
Alaine
Tara Lipinski is one of today's most consistent skater I've ever known. Being 1997 U.S. and World champ, and 1998 Olympic Gold medalist by the age of 15 is quite amazing. She seems to have achieved most of her dreams. I for one, am an average 15 year old who loves skating, dancing, and acting. I don't have a big dream as Tara does and have not achieved it yet. Tara Lipinski just turned 16 not very long ago and she is now in Houston, Texas where her father lives. She has decided to turn pro like many Olympians we have had in the past. I mean, she HAS achieved her skating dream and she owes much of the time lost and money that her parents have sacrificed for her. That's why she has decided to turn pro at a very tender age. She still has yet to get her High School Diploma, like many of us. Good Luck Tara in your future plans !
Michelle Kwan is truly the artist on the ice. She has had a rocky 96-97 season and lost the National and World title to young Tara. She approached the 97-98 season with high hopes and finally won the battle within herself. During the 96-97 season she had forgotten why she was on the ice skating and why she was competing. She realized that the only reason why she was competing and skating was the pure joy and love of it. I admire her for her strong personality. During the '98 U.S. Nationals earlier this year she showed America that she is back and better than ever. With 6.0's across the score boards. Michelle, however did not receive the gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Nagano (Tara did). Many strongly believe that she should have gotten the Gold and Tara the Silver. Tara is still very young and has a lot going for her, she could wait until 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City to get her Gold. Michelle would have probably turned pro and join the other champions like Kristi Yamaguchi and Oksana Baiul. Oh well...she is said to stay in the amateur ranks for the next four years. She has high hopes for the Olympic games in 2002 in Salt Lake City. Good luck Michelle !
