Capt. Hornbuckle's fairly impressive gum wrapper trick
Submitted by Rich Hornbuckle as follows:
"This conveniently illustrates "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." Take an ordinary gum wrapper foil. Wrap it around your thumb with about a third hanging off. After making this cylinder, twist the top to secure it on your thumb, so you have made a cap of sorts on the end of your thumb. Take the thing off your thumb. Make a fist with a hollow tube inside. Place the cap in the circle formed by your thumb and index finger. Make your fist loose enough so that there is a hole at the bottom of your fist by your pinky. Take your free hand and strike the base of your fist with the gum wrapper in it with your flattened palm. Ideally the cap will pop and fly into the air about 10 or 12 feet due to the air pressure forced on it by your popping hand. "
A Hornbuckle driver had a collision with the Tampa Bay
Bridge and put it out of commission.
