Personality: Dengar is a rather quiet kind of guy. He doesn't say much even when he's in company, but it's not because he's stuck up or spoiled. He just doesn't see the point in useless chatter. If he's going to say something, it's going to be worth saying. Because of this, he gives off a bit of a mysterious air that many of the female population of his hold love despite his rather plain looks. Dengar is well-read and has excellent manners. He understands the value of appearances and is always well dressed. He hates canines, considering them to be disgusting creatures that only dirty his clothes; however, he adores felines. He has a tendency to be obsessive, and he loves music. He also hates being alone as it makes him feel forgotten and useless. He can also be rather resentful.
History: Dengar was born as the second son of a pair of lord holders. Being the second son, he didn't have to endure much in the way of pressure. Instead, he grew up happily with his many siblings. Growing up around so many people was wonderful though it didn't make him overly talkative. He liked listening to his family members talk amongst themselves instead. Rarely did he ever join the conversation. At first his parents worried that something might be wrong with him, but when he proved to be a rather bright child, they left him alone to his quiet ways.
As a child, Dengar always disliked canines. The couple his father kept frightened him with their loud barks and growls. They were very feisty creatures, and they often irritated him. His hatred of the animal was cemented, however, when he was bitten by a wild canine when he had only seven turns. Luckily his older brother was nearby and had rescued him. After that, though, he avoided all canines as much as humanly possible. Instead he grew to love the felines of the hold, and eventually he procurred one of his own and named it Muse.
Dengar had always loved music. He would often hum little tunes to himself as he wandered the hold, and as he grew older, he set his sights on going to the Harper Hall. He practiced constantly, singing all the songs he could remember and then making up his own. He would often ride out on his favorite runnerbeast and practice away from all other ears.
His parents tried to caution him about getting his hopes up. They understood that his talent in the area of music was rather limited, but Dengar was determined. So, when he had fifteen turns he tried to become an apprentice at the Harper Hall and was promptly rejected for "having no ear and being rather tone deaf". Dengar was rather heartbroken for several months afterward, and he eventually came to loathe the Harper Hall and hated going anywhere near it.
Luckily, his parents had foreseen his disappointment and made appropriate arrangements for his apprenticeship at the Healer Hall instead. He'd always enjoyed being around other people and being useful, so they thought that it was a perfect match for his personality. They also gave him two firelizard eggs, hoping that raising them would distract their son from his disappointment. Dengar, who was still rather at a loss for what to do, obeyed his parens' wishes and left for the Healer Hall instead. It's close proximity to the Harper Hall made it extremely painful for him to be there, and as soon as he had recovered from his shock, he determined that there was no way he could stay there.
For a couple of months, Dengar muddled through his apprenticeship while he took care of his new friends. He enjoyed being useful, but he hated being near the Harper Hall. However, he was still searching for a new goal within himself. Finally, it hit him. The only place for him was at the weyr on the back of a dragon! With this new goal in his sights, he applied himself to his new craft with energy, patiently awaiting the day he'd be Searched.
