Elmia hurried down the hallway, her strawberry curls bouncing on top of her head. Zerynkel had injured himself again, and his green firelizard Nai had come to fetch her since she was the only one willing to deal with her accident prone fellow apprentice. If the injury was too bad, though, she would have to enlist the help of one of the masters or at least one of the journeymen. She hoped it wouldn't come to that as it would be so awkward to have to ask...again.

She rounded a corner and stopped outside an open door. "Zer," she called as she stepped inside and found the man sitting on the ground clutching his bleeding head. "Shards, Zer," she exclaimed as she knelt down next to the man. "What in Pern did you do this time?"

"Ah, it's not as bad as it looks, Elmia," the man replied with a weak smile. "Head wounds always bleed badly, right?"

Elmia shook her head at him as she grabbed some basic supplies from nearby shelves. "It's lucky for you that you're in one of the store rooms. Otherwise, I'd be forced to go get my kit," she stated as she began to mop up the slightly younger man's face until she could see the wound properly. "How did you gash your head open?"

Her patient didn't immediately answer and instead turned his eyes to stare at his feet. However, after a moment, he finally replied, "I caught it on a nail sticking out from the shelf up there."

Elmia looked up in the direction that he'd indicated and shook her head as she spotted the offending nail. "Only you could injure yourself like this," she said with a sigh as she put a salve on the would. "You're very lucky that it isn't too deep. Otherwise, I'd be forced to fetch one of the masters."

"I'm sorry for always bothering you," Zerynkel replied with a dejected slump of his shoulders. "I told Nai not to bother you and that it wasn't as bad as it looked. But, she wouldn't listen," he finished as the green flit who had been watching silently began to chitter angrily at him. "Yes, yes, you were right. I'm not even sure what she was doing here to begin with."

"I asked Nai to keep an eye on you just in case something like this should happen. It wouldn't do anyone any good if you bled out in some back storage room before anyone thought to look for you," Elmia admitted as she applied a bandage to the wound. "There that should do. I don't even think it will leave a scar, which should make your fans happy."

"My fans," Zerynkel asked as his one visible eyebrow shot upwards. "What do you mean my fans? I'm sure everyone here hates my very existence by now. Even you have to have your own firelizard tail me as an accident alarm," he declared sadly as he leaned his head back against the cabinet behind him.

Elmia cocked her head to one side as she looked at the younger man. He certainly was good looking if nothing else, and he always tried his best even if his success rate wasn't the highest. "Don't be so hard on yourself, Zer. It's just the fact that you're so unusually tall that causes the problems. I've told you that you have to be mindful of your surroundings. There aren't many people around here who can match you in height, so things aren't as conducive for people of your stature."

"I know. I know, and I'm trying to get better at that. It's just difficult when I'm thinking about other things," Zerynkel said with a sigh before opening his eyes once again. "Now, about these fans of mine," he began with a grin.

"You can't tell me that you haven't noticed how all the younger set practically swoon every time you walk by them. I think they even argue over who gets to patch you up next," Elmia added with a laugh.

"That's a comforting though," Zerynkel commented with a groan, but he seemed to be feeling a bit better.

"All right, stop moping," Elmia ordered as she held out her hand to him. "I'll help you up, and then you should go get some lunch. You look like you haven't eaten since your last birthing day."

"So you always say," Zerynkel said as he took the much smaller hand in his own and hoisted himself carefully off the floor. "But, it doesn't matter how many tubers you shove at me. I'll never get any wider."

Elmia shook her head. "I don't know how that's possible, but I suppose your'e right. Still you need to eat," she said leading the way out of the room. "Now, if you feel dizzy, it's probably just from blood loss, so take it easy and eat plenty of meat. You'll want to change the bandage later tonight as well and put some more salve on the injury to keep it clean."

"Yes, Miss Mia," Zerynkel said with a roll of his eyes. "Sheesh, I am an apprentice as well, you know. You don't have to give me all of the details."

"Sorry, I forget that you're an experience patient," Elmia said with a friendly shove to the man's arm.

"Hey," Zerynkel cried as he stumbled slightly. "I'm still injured!"

"Sheesh, I guess it's true what they say. Healers really do make the worst patients," Elmia said more to herself as they arrived at the dining hall. "Here we are. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go pack."

"Pack," Zerynkel repeated halfway through the doorway. "Where are you going?"

"I've been assigned to go to Aneris Hold to help with a sickness outbreak there, so I'll be leaving shortly. Be sure to take care of yourself while I'm gone," Elmia stated with a smile as she headed off to her own room to begin getting her things together.
