North Carolina Photo Gallery

In this gallery, I will include various road pictures from throughout North Carolina, the Tar Heel State. I have also made a new page featuring Chalotte (in addition to my page featuring the newly expanded section of I-485 in eastern Mecklenburg County) that can be reached by clicking on the Charlotte thumbnail to the left. The above picture shows where South Carolina 109 North crosses into Anson County, North Carolina. The road continues as NC 109 upon entering the state.

US 21 and North Carolina 115 South at a very old North Carolina 150 "trailblazer" in Troutman. These signs were once commonplace throughout the Tar Heel State, but are now becoming harder to find.

Interstae 40 East at Interstate 26 West in Asheville. This is the only sign posted in the eastbound direction of I-40 indicating Interstate 26's recent extension northwest to its current terminus at I-81 near Johnson City, Tennessee.

"Future" Interstate 26 Shields in Asheville. These "Future" 26 Shield can be found near UNC-Asheville at the terminus of NC 251.

North Carolina 9 North at US 64 and US 74-A near Lake Lure.

US 74 West at Alternate US 74 in Forest City. These overheads are located on US 74 West in route to Columbus and Interstate 26.

US 321 North at US 70 in Hickory. This marks the northern end of the US 321 freeway that begins to the south in Gastonia.

Interstate 40 West at Interstate 85 near Durham. This marks the beginning of a 38 mile long duplex between the two routes between Durham and Greensboro.

Interstates 40/85 Southwest at their split in Greensboro. This marks the end of a 38 mile long duplex between the two routes between Durham and Greensboro.

Interstate 95 North at Interstate 40 in Benson. This marks the junction between the two major routes in Benson about 40 miles southeast of Raleigh.

Interstate 95 South at Business 95 in Fayetteville. This loop connects 95 with the central areas of Fayetteville.

Interstate 40 West near the Tennessee State Line. This picture shows how Interstate 40 looks when driving through the heart of the Appalachians. Interstate 40 is very scenic between Hickory, NC and Newport, TN as it crosses the mountains.

Interstate 40 West at Exit 125 in Hickory. This sign is unusual in that the town of Morganton is used as a control city for 40 West in addition to Asheville.

US 74 West at US 74 West Business in Kings Mountain. This sign bridge is located on US 74 West and is the first exit on the US 74 West freeway after leaving I-85. The control city of Shelby refers to the mill town just over ten miles from here.

US 74 West at Business US 72 Cutout Shield in Moss Lake. This is a rare example of a US cutout shield still standing in North Carolina. This shield can be found along the US 74 freeway heading west near Moss Lake.

US 321 South at Interstate 40 in Hickory. This marks the second southbound exit for the US 321 freeway in Hickory. From this point, Statesville is about 30 miles to the east and Asheville is just over 80 miles to the west.

US 321 South at US 64, NC 18, & NC 90 in Lenoir. This sign bridge is located at the busy US 321/US64 intersection in Lenoir to the northeast of Hickory.

North Carolina 226 South at North Carolina 226A near Little Switzerland. This sign is located on NC 226 South just past the Blue Ridge Parkway and marks the northern end of NC 226A. NC 226A is North Carolina's lone suffixed state highway.
