FAQ

What is LARP?

Here it comes: the most asked, yet most difficult to answer question. LARP, or Live Action Roleplay, is like roleplaying on the internet. Only, instead of describing what your character wears, acts like, and does, you wear what they would, act like they would, and actually act out what they do with a group of other characters. Basically, it's like a play without scripts or sometimes even a set plot.

What is roleplaying?

Roleplaying is where you assume a new identity, and act out what they do. This character can be like you in all or no ways. There are many ways to roleplay. Video games (Diablo, EverQuest), Tabletop (Dungeons and Dragons), MUDs or MASHes (Avalon, Neverending), or even at sites on the web (Ankor, Dae Luin). In web-based Roleplays, you decide and describe what your character is like with text, in others, the roll of dice may decide what you do and where you go. This, basically, is roleplay.

Why do you roleplay?

People roleplay for alot of reasons: Boredom, fun, and sometimes for just the want to be someone else for a while. This reason is espescially fulfilled in LARP, because you use your body to act out everything. Eventually, your LARP character may become like an alternate personality in a different world. In anycase, it's extremely fun.

Is LARPing dangerous?

As much as I'd like to say no, I can't deny that it doesn't have some danger. I mean, when a group of people wielding weapons of all sorts go tromping around through open fields and ranges of tree's and such, you have to expect that some of those characters are gonna disagree, and that there'll be the occasional player who gets so into character they won't hesitate to wap someone in the knee's with their staff or sword (coughphaytcough). But everyone takes some safety precautions at least.
