Preparing Sega CD for GensXThe Sega CD was an expansion of the Sega Genesis which more than doubled the Genesis' available RAM, added an additional sound processor, and a chip that enabled hardware scaling and rotation, similar to the SNES's famed Mode 7. Poor marketing, a high price, and a lack of software support prevented the system from catching on. This step by step guide will walk you through, extracting the Audio and Data from your Sega CD, and preparing it for GensX to read. If you need a good source for Sega CD's, be sure to head over to Ebay, as most titles sell for only $1.00 to $10.00! All software mentioned in this guide can by found by browsing with GOOGLE.

First you will need CDRWIN 3.9. Once it is installed you will need to open it up and select the 3rd Icon from the upper left hand side. This will bring you to the Extract Discs/Tracks/Sectors To Image File screen. In here you will need to select the following options: 1. The CDROM drive that has the game disk in it.
2. Directory, and file name to save game to.
3. Read Options RAW
4. Error Recovery ABORT.
5. Jitter Correction AUTO
6. Subcode Analysis FULL (or disable if your CDROM does not support this)
7. Read Retry Count 15 (or more)
Recheck and make sure all of the settings are correct, once done, go ahead and hit start, and take a coffee break. |

Now that step one is complete, you will need to shut down CDRWIN, and open up Fireburn. Once inside Fireburner you need to click on File, and select Import Tracks From Cue Sheet. By selecting the Cue Sheet from your game's new directory, Fire Burner will present you with a list of all the contents of the game Bin Image. Right click on any one of the files, and select Save Track Options. Once inside here make sure that: MODE 1 Data Tracks is set to 2048.
Audio is set to WAV.
Once set, highlight all of the files in the list, right click, then select Save Tracks As. Next you will tell it YES, and where to save the files. |

Now that you have the BIN file converted to ISO format, and you have extracted all of the Audio tracks from the BIN, you will need to convert them to MP3 format. In order to do this, you will need a tool such as Exact Audio Copy , and Lame. Once you have Exact Audio Copy opened and configured, you will need to click on EAC in the upper right hand corner, and select Compression Options. Make sure the bit rate is set to no less than 128 KBit/s and no higher than 192 KNit/s. Hit OK, and then click on Tools, then select Compress Wavs. From here you will select all of the Wav files in your game folder, then hit OPEN. Now you will simply need to tell it where to save the MP3 files (preferably in the same folder as the ISO file), then hit OK to begin. Take another coffee break (a longer one), for if you mess around with your computer while it is doing this, I might mess up your audio tracks.
Once this has completed, you can goto the folder containing your ISO and MP3 files. You can delete your Cue Sheet, Bin File, and Wav Files at this point.
Now Rename your ISO to the name of your game, I.E. Lunar.iso.
Next you will need to rename all of the MP3 files to match the ISO file name, but you will need to add a 02, 03, 04, ect. after each track. For example your directory should look like this:
Lunar.iso Lunar02.mp3 Lunar03.mp3 Lunar04.mp3 Lunar05.mp3
ect.
Now that you have all of this set you will need to copy these files into the ROMS directory of GensX, or at least until the Author gets it fixed so that you can simply zip them before hand with Winzip, or else copy them into a directory of the same name. |
