Chapter 8

A/N: I more than likely forgot what Peter's father did in real life, so I made him a school teacher. Hope you like!

---------

Peter sat in the family den looking at television. Just then a commercial came on with a summery theme. It portrayed white sand beaches and it featured a surfer.

"Hmm, wonder what Micky's up to? That boy should have been born with fins as much as he stays in the water." Peter thought. His thoughts then turned to Mike and Davy. "Mike must be having a time trying to get those two to rehearsal. I remember when we had to get a chart to keep up with Davy's dates." These thoughts brought a smile to Peter's face as he remembered the good times he had with the guys.

Not long after, Peter was joined by his father. It was not as if he were avoiding his father, he just did not want to talk about school. He was getting settled, but school was a stronger commitment. Nevertheless, Peter mustered a smile.

"Hi Peter. Where's your mother and sister?" Mr. Thorkelson asked.

"They went shopping." Peter answered.

"Oh, well good. That gives us a chance to talk." Mr. Thorkelson said as he sat in his easy chair. "Have you decided what major you want in school, son?"

"Mus---I mean I was thinking about going into teaching." Peter answered.

"What subject?" his father quizzed further.

"Uh, history." Peter managed.

"Son, you've just made me a proud man!" Mr. Thorkelson said as he hugged Peter. Mr. Thorkelson was a history teacher by trade.

Peter managed a smile, but he felt as though he had just signed his life away. California seemed so far in the past, Connecticut and his future seemed to be staring him in face.
