Christmas is a religious holiday when christians come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, whom they believe is the Son of God. Christmas falls on the 25th of December and long before that Christmas comes, they would have already decorated their houses with Christmas decorations such as Christmas trees, banners and so on, getting ready for that special day. On Christmas Eve, many people will attend evening church services where they will sing carols and sometimes performances focused on the scene of Jesus Christ's birth will be made. On Christmas Eve, people (mostly youths and children)would also go from house to house to sing Christmas carols to their neighbours. Giving gifts is a Christmas tradition and people would exchange gifts and on Christmas morning, many would rush to open up their christmas presents that are placed under the Christmas trees. Most westerners would hold parties and invite their relatives or friends over to celebrate. They would have a time of fellowship and games, sing carols and have a sumptuous dinner. Dessert is a very important part of the Christmas dinner. In America, it is a tradition for the guests to bring English fruit cake or plum pudding as presents to their hosts. As an ending for the Christmas banquet, Americans of German background eat "Pfeffernuesse," a bread full of sweet spices. Where as doughnuts are a holiday offering in many Ukrainian-American homes. For the Norwegian, "Berlinerkranser", a wreath-shaped cookie is consumed. Candy canes and curly green and red ribbon candy are also examples of traditional gifts and goodies. It is also a tradition for children to hang red sock-shaped fabric bagsat the fire place as they believed that the "imaginery" Santa Clause would sneak into their houses at night through the chimney to put gifts in their stockings. Christmas may seem like a season of solely fun, but actually the true message of Christmas is to share with others and to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ
