The quest for truth. It seems like we are faced with this every day the past few years. And my greatest concern is that people don’t think twice about the source of information before readily believing things or they believe information that is not substantiated with evidence. One side says the media misleads, the other side says there has been systematic manipulation. What is truth? Wasn’t that a question Jesus asked more than once? He, too, understood that it can be elusive when it comes to people. What would Jesus do? Hasn’t that been a popular catch phrase for a few years now, but how often do we really ponder it? How often do we live it? When people start spouting hateful remarks due to political loyalty, is that a Christian way to treat anyone? We are called to let love guide us in everything in life—God is LOVE.
One of my favorite books of the Bible is Ecclesiastes. Solomon prayed for wisdom, and the Bible tells us God was pleased. For many years in many situations and circumstances I have prayed specifically for God’s wisdom, knowing that that pleases God. Solomon, although fallible like all humans, was on a quest for wisdom. He was a deep thinker, he pondered often, was on a quest to make sense of things, he was full of questions and seeking answers. And his conclusion regarding so many things: “a mere chasing of the wind.” How many arguments and asserting our opinions and alienating people in the process—how much of that is a mere chasing of the wind? Doesn’t wisdom dictate listening to everything and pondering the worthiness of everything and praying for God’s wisdom and discernment along the way?
I ask that you ponder with me the lyrics above and put more careful thought into everything that you hear and read and not allow yourself to be persuaded merely by loyalty to one party over another. I know I don’t want to one day realize I’ve lived life “upside down.” Let’s let godly love and God’s wisdom guide us and not allow the master manipulator, satan, to win.
