RECOGNIZING COGNATES & SPELLING PATTERNS

1.  Identical cognates are easy to recognize because they are spelled out but not pronounced the same in both languages.

2.  Some cognates are nearly identical, with the exception that in English they have a double consonant while in Spanish they have a single consonant.
