Last Stop
Over the spring quarter of 2004, our team will ask the question which style of animation do AI Minnesota animation students prefer; American animation or Japanese animation (anime)? We plan to use a survey method, asking students enrolled in animation-specific classes to answer a few simple questions reguarding the two styles. These questions will pertain to visual style, writing style, perceived popularity, and quality, in addition to questions on age of the student and how long they have been attending AI.

Issues and comments:

*Friends are more likely to answer the survey, thereby bringing a possible lurnking variable in that specific social groups could have answered more often than others.

*Research is partially to see how the AI program effects preference (many animation teachers frown on anime as a medium).

*Method may exclude first/second quarter students taking all gen-eds in order to get them out of the way.

*It will be necessary to make sure nobody takes the survey more than once.

*Could possibly hand survey to animation teachers and ask them to hand out to students.

*Compiling data will be time-consuming.

*Questions are as of yet unwritten and will need to be well thought out.

*Graph results.

*Some students may decline to answere some or all questions.

*Will need solid, well-known examples of each style.

*Have not yet decided if we will include visuals in the surveys.
