Kouji explains neutrino bursts, the Wave Effect, and the Geduld Phonomenon in a voice- over. Blue arrives at the bridge. (note- this is the first change in the opening animation, showing clips of the Ryvius in flight. It's during the line "Hoshimono no katachi wa nanimo nai kedo".)

The Zwei attempt to talk their way out of a confrontation and Charlie's duplicity is revealed. Fuu reveals the fate of the Liebel, leading Ikumi to become upset with Lucson for his actions. We all know by now how highly Ikumi regards life. Since everyone is distracted by Ikumi accosting Lucson, Yuki uses this opportunity to attack Blue. He fails. Blue is definitely a better fighter than Yuki.

The girls in their room discuss Faina and Kouji. Reiko and Kozue tease Aoi about being jealous, which she denies.

On the bridge, Blue's group takes stock of the VG team and Kouji and Faina. Kouji takes the fire out of Ryu by suggesting that they follow the Wave to escape. Blue puts Juli in command, and stations Kouji and Faina on the bridge.

Viscuess's team rescues the Liebel, and the captain receives a report on the men's condition. They have severe radiation poisoning, and show signs of being tortured.

Fuu makes an announcement over the intercom system that the Zwei have been hiding information, and says that they will now be supervised by the members of Blue's team and Kouji.

On Earth, Shimomura gives Berkovich a report on the Ryvius. Berkovich mentions that their last resort is "the Impulse".

On the bridge again. Kouji drafts and announcement to be sent over the computer system that they are heading for Mars, and hope to land in its largest city, Alvara. He sneaks a message to Aoi and Nicks that was probably meant to reassure them that he's okay and busy. It just ticks them off.

Son Doppo is the supervisor from the Vital Guarder training. Yuki is acting out and not working properly, and Ikumi scolds him, saying that Kouji is still on the bridge as a kind of hostage. Around the ship, work resumes for their approach to Mars.

Fuu sends Kouji to rest, giving a report to Blue that he's a hard worker. Of course, if he resists at all, he will make a perfect example instead of a perfect bridge bunny. ('bridge bunny' being my term, not theirs. I used to be into Eva, and Kouji in this part rather reminds me of the NERV assistants, who are sometimes referred to in fandom as the bridge bunnies.)

Yuki acts up when Blue is overseeing the VG operations, and is assisted back to the room by Ikumi. Kouji is not happy to find him, but covers him up because his blanket slipped. Yuki is woken by his movement. He accuses Kouji of giving in too easily, of accepting whatever comes too blythely. Kouji slaps him. Yuki grabs his shirt as he moves away, and we see again that long scar that caused him to hesitant in their earlier fight. Faina comes to get Kouji, and he leaves. Ikumi raises his eyemask, giving us the impression that he was only feigning sleep and heard the whole arguement.

Lucson sees something unusual on the radar. It's shaped like a squid.

Faina tells Kouji the teaching of Mother Arne, that you can only part with your past. "It's impossible to forget." "I see." "You can only part with you past, on your own." (quote from the sub on the DVDs.)

Lucson's squid passes dangerously close to the Ryvius with a cry of "Neya", causing the ship to shake and throwing Faina into Kouji's arms.
