Great Teacher Onizuka (aka GTO) is one of my favorite manga, anime and drama series of all time!  On this page, you'll see pictures comparing the anime and drama series, along with character bios on the side.  If you haven't already gave this series a chance, I heavily suggest that you do so because for the record there has yet to be a person that I've shown this series to that didn't like it, so give it a try!

YOROSHIKU!

Anime Version

Drama Version

Character Bio

Onizuka Eikichi, 22 years old.  An ex-biker gang leader whom one day decides to become the greatest teacher in Japan, hence "GTO".  Has a 2nd degree black belt in karate.  A pervert that at times seem like he lacks a brain. Often gives the middle finger to people after saying, "yoroshiku!" (Nice to meet you).

He doesn't exist in this version!

Danma Ryuuji.  Used to be part of the legendary Onibaku gang in Shonan with Onizuka.  After moving to Tokyo for 6 years, he successfully becomes an auto-mechanic in his own workshop.  Although Onizuka and Ryuuji often fight, make no mistake about them having the strongest friendship ever between 2 people.

Fuyutsuki Azusa.  In both the anime and manga, she interviews for a teaching position at Seirin Gakuen at the same time as Onizuka.  In the drama, she already starts out as a teacher.  Her love interest is Onizuka. Because she easily buys into ideas, she never fully trusts Onizuka until many events.

Uchiyamada Hiroshi.  The Vice-Principal of Seirin Gakuen.  The day Onizuka set foot on campus is when Uchiyamada has non-stop problems, which ultimately causes him to constantly attempt to find some way to fire Onizuka.  Has a Toyota Cresta in the anime, and a Benz in the drama.

Sakura Richijou(Chairman).  The Chairman of Seirin Gakuen.  Probably the person that gives Onizuka the most chances out of all the characters in the GTO crew.  She always stands for what is right, regardless how bad her odds are against a corrupted higher power.  First name never given in either version.

Mizuki Nanako.  In the anime , she is the first student Onizuka encounters in the school he student teaches at.  In the drama, Onizuka does not student teach so Nanako is actually a part of the class 2-4 of Seirin Gakuen.  After Onizuka helps Nanako with family problems at one point, she becomes a trusted friend.

Kikuchi Yoshito.  The former leader of "Harrass The Teacher" group.  Extremely intelligent with an IQ of 180.  After Onizuka teaches Kikuchi there is more to school than plain academics, he becomes Onizuka's friend and helps him numerous times from getting possibly fired.

Murai Kunio.  The young man with the Oedipus Complex.  In both versions, Murai can be viewed as a "tough guy", but then it is apparent that his character in the anime seems to be more relaxed and knows how to have fun.  The drama version of him is quite the contrary.  Rarely do you ever see him smile.

Under Construction...

Yoshikawa Noboru.  The "loser" of the class.  Constantly picked on by his classmates (especially the girls).  A video game master.  Arguably Onizuka's most loyal friend (that is a pupil of his).  He attempts to commit suicide twice in the anime and manga, both times saved by Onizuka.

Under Construction...

Aizawa Miyabi.  The sole reason why the class do not trust their teachers.  In all three versions of GTO, each give a different reason to her sudden 180 degree change of character.  Gives Onizuka the most trouble, constantly trying to get him fired.  Ironically, Onizuka saves her in all three versions in the very end.

Teshigawara Suguru.  The "psycho/obsessive" teacher.  Has an extreme obsession for Fuyutsuki Azusa.  Entire walls of his room covered with her pictures.  He successfully knocks out Fuyutsuki in the drama with a mixed drink, but Onizuka comes at the last minute rescue to prevent anything from happening.

Murai Julia.  Murai Kunio's mother.  A single mom that gave birth to her child at the age of 13 in the anime/manga, 17 in the drama.  Husband leaves her to take care of herself in the anime/manga, while in the drama her husband dies while being in a motorcycle race with his gang years before Murai Kunio's birth.

Fukuroda Hajime.  The physical education teacher.  In the anime/manga, he is a pervert with a fetish with observing his female pupils running.  In the drama, he is truly excited about physical education itself.  Also has a love interest for Fuyutsuki in the drama.  Seems to be more bone-headed in the drama.

She doesn't exist in this version!

Kadena Nao.  An anime version only character.  The nurse of the school.  A legendary ex-street racer trying to raise money for her younger brother Takashi's surgery.  There is also a similar character in the manga, but the character's name is Moritaka and she has no street-racing background.

He doesn't exist in this version!

Sakurada Tadashi.  An anime/manga version only character.  The "leader" of the teachers, one position lower than the vice-principal's.  In the anime, he has a fetish for taking pictures of women in strange clothing.  In the manga, he is a perverted peeper with a video camera.  Blackmailed by Aizawa Miyabi at one point.

Under Construction...

Uchiyamada Ryoko.  Wife of Vice-Principal Uchiyamada Hiroshi.  Seems to have a family problem with the vice-principal.  Escapes to live in Onizuka's apartment at one point in the drama.  Seemingly only cares about money and typical objects yearned by females.

Under Construction...

Uchiyamada Yoshiko.  Daughter of Vice-Principal Uchiyamada Hiroshi.  Like her mother, she seems to have a family problem with the vice-principal.  She goes out with Onizuka for several nights, and ironically names her dog Eikichi prior to meeting Onizuka.  Like her mother, she is also very materialistic.

Under Construction...

Nomura Tomoko.  A complete klutz, therefore nicknamed as "Toroko" (Clumsy).  Constantly picked on by her classmates and also her family members due to her slow reactions.  100% pure at heart.  Best friends with Aizawa Miyabi since childhood.  With the help of Onizuka, she becomes one of the top Japanese idols.

She doesn't exist in this version!

Yamaguchi Rika.  A drama version only character.  Because the character Kanzaki Urumi does not exist in the drama, Rika is used as a replacement to cover half of Kanzaki's character and the other half of Aizawa Miyabi's character in the manga version.  Like the students in class 3-4(or 2-4), she does not trust teachers due to an event.

Under Construction...

She doesn't exist in this version!

Kanzaki Urumi.  An extremely intelligent girl with an IQ of 200.  She has a mysterious past that ties with why she is so smart.  Because a teacher she trusted very much betrayed her by telling off her secret in elementary school, from that point on she became a cold "school-terrorist" that leaves no evidence behind her.
