Frustration

by "Xevious" Pat Banks

With TV guide in hand I searched the shows that week.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, then Friday I did seek.

To my surprise my eyes did see a show I’d grown to love.

A new episode was set to air, I thanked the Man above.

I would add to my collection this thirty minute feast,

to sit with laughter and suspense to soothe my inner beast.

When Friday came in Little Rock, it was a dreary day.

Rain was falling, thunder clapped, the atmosphere was gray.

"Let it pour, it doesn’t matter," I proudly did declare.

I strode into the living room and plopped down in my chair.

Sitting there in comfort, my plan began to grow.

My mind a whirling dervish, the ideas began to flow.

I have to do what I had done so many times before.

To many errors have occurred in recording lore.

First, set the VCR, make sure the time is right.

Everything must be ready for this precious night.

The tape was in, the machine was off, everything was set.

I double checked before I left, for there was no safety net.

Work that night was tiresome all throughout that eve.

While back home, recording now, was my land of make believe.

Time moved slow. It almost stopped. My frustrations grew.

"Settle down," said my friend. If he only knew.

The clock struck one. My job was done. I checked out and ran.

The rain had stopped and the stars were out. I’d had the perfect plan.

I hopped into my car and sped along that night.

Thankfully, no police were out to catch me in my flight.

I made it home in record time, but not a moment could be spared!

The Powerpuffs were on this day, and I sprinted for the stairs.

Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were waiting there for me

on the tape I had carefully set with a childish glee.

A snack was made and a drink was poured. I was ready for laughs.

The remote was hit to start the fun. I know I’d made no gaffs.

Oh, somewhere on the internet the fans all come to chat.

"The show was great," they would say, "One of the best at that!"

They discuss their favorite scenes, with happiness they’d shout,

But there was no joy in Little Rock—

the cable had gone out.
