Chilis Get Emotional On New CD

"By the Way" due out in June "We have tons of songs," says the Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis of the band's next record, By the Way, which is in post-production. After months at a Sunset Strip Studio, Kiedis and longtime producer Rick Rubin moved things in to the Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont (where Kiedis used to live) to finish the record, which is due in late June. "We set the microphone up in the bedroom and the recording studio in the living room," Kiedis says. "We stayed here for a couple of months." Kiedis describes the songs as "very emotional. I've cried a few times."

Despite the release, the Chilis will most likely not tour the U.S. until early next year, though Kiedis says the band will make a few appearances. "I'm definitely petitioning for some guerrilla shows," he says. "We want to play for our fanhood."

By the Way will be the band's first album since 1999's Californication, which has sold more than 4 million copies to date.
