MABUS, Marietta
MIFFLINBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: Marietta M. Mabus, 82, died July 22, 2009 at her residence. She was born August 24, 1926 in McEwensville to Frank and Lula Hill McClintock. She was a retired certified nursing assistant at the Laurelton State School with over 26 years of service. She and her husband retired to Pulaski, NY. She enjoyed gardening, collecting cookbooks, birdwatching and traveling. She and her husband also volunteered with the Boy Scouts. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald J. and Rosalyn A. Mabus of Mifflinburg; a grandson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Eleanor Hackenburg of Millmont, and Carolyn and Theodore Catherman of Mifflinburg; her nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Mabus; and several siblings. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery by Roupp Funeral Home.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: Elizabeth Macfarlane, 87, died March 5, 1982 at Shadyside Hospital. She was a graduate of Miss Porter's School. She attended Shadyside Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames, the Pittsburgh Golf Club, the American Red Cross and the Travelers' Aid Society. She was survived by a brother, Malcolm, of Sewickley Heights. Services were held at Shadyside Presbyterian Church. Interment was at Homewood Cemetery.

LEECHBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: Margaret Hemphill Mackuliak died October 10, 2003. She was born May 2, 1923 in Fawn Township, PA to James McNeal and Ethil Snyder Hemphill. She is survived by four sons, James S. Mackuliak (Paulette) of Gilpin Township, Michael R. Mackuliak of Meriden, CT, Joseph J. Mackuliak (Bev) of Hemet, CA, and Timothy J. Mackuliak (Karen) of Fort Bragg, CA; a sister, Mary Emory of Pocatello, ID; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Mackuliak; her parents; and a brother, Neal Hemphill. Services were held at Christ The King Church. MAGOR, Warren F.
OAKMONT, PENNSYLVANIA: Capt. Warren Frank Magor, 46, died October 12, 1979 at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. He was born July 24, 1933 to Rev. Frank and Alice Cady Magor. He was a U.S. Navy chaplain. He was a graduate of Lafayette College and Union Theological Seminary, and held a master's degree from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He joined the Marines in 1955, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, one with the Navy and the other with the Marines. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Magor; two sons, George and Frank Magor; a sister, Norma Peters; and a brother, Dr. Robert Magor. Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery.

MAJIKITIS, William
WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA: William Majikitis died February 18, 1964. He was born June 3, 1888 in Poland. He had been in the U.S. for over 50 years, and worked as a coal miner for 45 years, last working at the Tyler Mine of Hillman Coal and Coke Co. He was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church. Survivors include two sisters in Europe; and a brother, Joseph of Shamokin. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery under the direction of Abel Funeral Home.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: Elizabeth Agnes Maladey died March 7, 1948 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was the daughter of Daniel and Mary Maladey. She was a retired public school music supervisor, and had also taught voice at Duquesne University. She was preceded in death by siblings, Sr. Mary Basil Maladey, Rev. John Maladey and Rev. Daniel J. MALINOWSKI, Rev. Francis X.
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: Fr. Francis X. Malinowski, 81, died July 11, 2006 at St. Clair Hospital. He was born November 26, 1924 in Mahanoy City, PA. He held a bachelor's degree in philosophy, and studied at St. Mary Seminary and Fordham University. He later attended Fribourg University in Switzerland. He was a visiting scholar in Heidelberg, Germany and at Cambridge University, and earned a doctoral degree from Duke University. He was ordained with the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in 1950 at Holy Ghost Seminary in Chevilly, France. He was a former theology department chairman at Duquesne University, and superior of the Spiritan Community at Trinity Hall. He served as a Catholic priest for over 55 years, and was assistant pastor at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Philadelphia, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Pittsburgh, and parochial vicar of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Monroe, NC. He was a French teacher and athletic coach at St. Emma Military Academy in Rock Castle, VA, and taught at St. Mary Seminary in Norwalk, CT. He was chaplain for the Sisters of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Danville, PA. He was a sports enthusiast, and was very active in high school and college sports, especially football and basketball. He played football for Fordham University. He is survived by three sisters, Dolores Fiorentino of Hellertown, and Joan DiSalle and Eleanor Tirimacco, both of McMurray; four brothers, Conrad Malinowski of McCandless, Leonard Malinowksi of State College, Jack Malinowski of Philadelphia, and Daniel Malinowski of Hampton; and his nieces and nephews, including Kira Tirimacco of Los Angeles. Services were held at the Spiritan Center in Bethel Park. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery in O'Hara Township.

She was an accountant for Bell Telephone Co. in Philadelphia with 44 years of service, and was a charter member of Chadds Ford Baptist Church. She was the family historian, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and collecting model trains. Survivors include a sister, Helen E. Mann Rehberg (George B.) of Westbrook, CT; 2 nephews; a niece; and her great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Charlotte Mann and Virginia A. Mann. LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA: Michael Maransky, 101, died December 26, 2010 at the Lebanon Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born December 20, 1909 in Philadelphia to John and Vida Prodanov Maransky. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Company, and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He attended Holy Resurrection of Christ Serbian Orthodox Church, and was a member of the American Legion, the Friendship Fire Company, and the Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Lauer Maransky; a sister, Olga (Jesse) Gettle of Dothan, AL; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two stepdaughters, Cheryl and Carol Boltz; two sisters, Kathryn Uhrich and Mitzi Maransky; and a brother, William "Brownie" Maransky. He was a retired buyer and manager for the ladies' sportswear and accessories departments at Hart's Department Store. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a staff sergeant with Company B of the 309th Infantry. He was a charter member of the New Kensington Lions Club, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a founding member of Adat Shalom B'nai Israel Beth Jacob Synagogue. He is survived by a niece, Elaine Bortz of Englewood, NJ; and two nephews, Edwin Hart of Tampa, FL, and Alan Marcus of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham Isaac and Rebecca Marcus; two brothers, Louis and Herman Marcus; and two sisters, Ida Hart and Sarah Sobol. BEAVER FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA: Sr. M. Luke McConnell died December 31, 1961 at McGuire Memorial Hospital. She was born in Pittsburgh. She entered the Sisters of Charity Community when she was 22 years old. She was a music teacher and supervisor in Pittsburgh and Altoona parochial schools for 35 years, and had served as administrator at McGuire Memorial Hospital since its opening. She was survived by a brother, Leo McConnell; and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Kerr, and Mother Francella McConnell, assistant mother superior for the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh. Services were held at the McGuire Hospital chapel, and also at Assumption Hall Chapel. Interment was at the Sisters' Cemetery in Seton Hill.

He formerly worked at Olmsted Air Force Base, and was a retired quality control inspector for the former New Cumberland Army Depot. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He attended St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Oberlin, where he was a former member of the church board and a church greeter. He was a past board member of the American Civic Organization, the Serbian National Federation Lodge #37, and the VFW. He enjoyed sports, and was a former member of the Steel-High Roller Club. Survivors include three sisters, Mildred Belic, Helen Miscevich, and Olga Klipa, all of Steelton; two nephews; four nieces; and his great-nieces and great-nephews. Services were held at St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church. Burial was at Churchville Cemetery under the direction of Wiedeman Funeral Home.

MURPHY, Father Thomas
WEST MIFFLIN, PENNSYLVANIA: Fr. Thomas Regis Murphy died September 19, 2010. He was born June 4, 1911 to John and Roseann Murphy, both of whom were from County Down, Ireland. He studied at Duquesne University and St. Vincent Seminary, and held bachelor's and master's degrees. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 14, 1936 at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe. As a child, he sang at Carnegie Hall as a soloist at the age of 12. He played violin with the Duquesne University Symphony Orchestra for 8 years, and sang on radio. He also wrote songs that were performed by local orchestras, and enjoyed acting and theatre. He served as assistant at St. Canice in Knoxville and St. Pius Church in McKeesport, and as pastor of St. Anne's Church in Waynesburg, and Resurrection Church in West Mifflin. He was a published poet, and wrote two books. He was the Catholic commentator for Radio Station WEDO. Survivors include two nephews, John Murphy and Thomas Boyle; two nieces, Denise Davie and Cathleen LeClair; his great-nieces and great-nephews; and a godson. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Teresa Murphy Boyle, and Daniel, Rose, Maria, Margaret, Christopher, and John Murphy. Services were held at Resurrection Church. Arrangements were handled by Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home.

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Sr. Mary Andrea Nagurney (Anna), OSBM, 92, died June 28, 2004. She was born in Jessup, PA to Nicholas and Mary Fechina) Nagurney. She held degrees in math and physics from Catholic University in Washington, DC, and also attended Rosemont College, St. John College, and Villanova University. She entered the Sisters of St. Basil the Great in 1931 and professed vows in 1940. She was a retired teacher at St. Basil Academy, having taught from 1956 until 1983, and also taught at schools in Cleveland, OH, Chester, and New Kensington. Following retirement, she was a math and English tutor. She was a former Secretary to the Provincial, and was a Provincial Treasurer for 15 years. She enjoyed gardening and playing the piano. Survivors include a sister, Mary Nagurney Dakunchak; two nephews, Michael Nagurney and Peter Dakunchak; and her grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Services were held at Holy Trinity Chapel in Fox Chase Manor. Interment was at the Convent Cemetery under the direction of Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home.

For 6 years, she was also a provincial counselor. She had been a member of her order for 77 years. ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA: Sr. Ann Prisco, RSM, died March 23, 2012 at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse. She was born April 12, 1932 in Hornell, NY to Nicholas and Angeline Falco Prisco. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1950. She made her final profession of vows on August 2, 1956. She had been in religious life for 62 years. She held a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Mercyhurst College, and also studied at St. John's College in Cleveland and New Platz University in New York. She was a teacher at many different schools, including St. Titus and St. Wallburga (Titusville), Immaculate Conception (Brookville), Ss. Cosmas and Damien (Punxsutawney), St. Michael (Greenville), St. Hedwig, St. Boniface, and St. Luke (Erie), St. Thomas (Corry), St. Catherine (DuBois), St Michael (Fryburg), and St. Justin (Pittsburgh Diocese). She was a CCD Coordinator and pastoral minister at St. Basil in Coalport and St. Luke in Erie. She was also coordinator of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse, and served as an infirmary driver for elderly sisters. Survivors include two sisters, Caroline (Thomas) Wood, and Teresa (Thomas) Shea; a niece; two nephews; and her religious community. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Prisco. Services were held at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery by Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home.

RESERVE TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA: William Raymond Prom was killed in combat during the Vietnam War on February 9, 1969. He was a posthumous recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was a graduate of Conley Trade School in Pittsburgh and Davidson College. He was a self-employed commercial artist, later becoming art director at MARC and Co. Advertising Agency of Pittsburgh. Following retirement to his Farm House Studio at Sandy Lake, he did freelance work until his passing. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army 80th Infantry Division and transferring to the Army Air Force as a B-17 bomber pilot. He was a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Murslack Slemenda; a son, Norman J. Slemenda, Jr. (Mary Catherine) of Cranberry Township; a daughter, Vicki Nichols (Virgil) of Spartansburg; a brother, John H. He made a profession of vows in 1953, and was ordained to the priesthood on July 20, 1958 at St. Michael Church in Fribourg, Switzerland. He was a psychology professor at Duquesne University. He was pastor of St. Ann Parish in Millvale, PA, and was appointed superior of the Trinity Hall community. He received three appointments as provincial bursar, and was named superior of the Spiritan community in Florida in 2004. In 2006, he retired to Trinity Hall in Pittsburgh. Survivors include two nieces, Alice Wilson of Santa Cruz, CA, and Roseanna Ward of Oakland, CA. Services were held at the Duquesne University Chapel. He was a retired engineering technician at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland with over 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the Delta Fish and Game Association, and a past commander of John S. Murphy VFW Post #7130. He was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Tania Steele of Delta; a stepdaughter, Patricia D. Fantom of Delta; a sister, Margaret Shoulberg of Budd Lake, NJ; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Albert M. Steele, and Clarence "Tink" Steele. HOMER CITY, PENNSYLVANIA: Eleanor A. Steffy, 64, died September 26, 1983 at the Westmoreland County Hospital. She was born March 19, 1919 in Robindale to Levi and Eleanor Thomas Smith. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. STEIFEL, Roland
MOUNT LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA: Roland E. Steifel, 64, died March 13, 1992 at St. Clair Memorial Hospital. He was a piano technician. He was a graduate of the Emil Fries Piano Training Center in Vancouver, WA, and the Kansas State School for the Blind. He was a piano tuner for the Pittsburgh Board of Education, and was later self-employed doing jobs for universities and stores. He was past president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Piano Technicians' Guild. He came to the Pittsburgh area from Kansas in 1955. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Buckwalter Steifel; a foster daughter, Merna Latimer of Carnegie; and three sisters, Fern Bailey of Hesperia, CA, Viola Vonderheide of Upland, CA, and Julia Endsley of Barstow, CA. Services were held at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church. Interment was at Midway Mennonite Cemetery in Columbiana, OH under the direction of Slater Funeral Home.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: Dr. Leo J. Steinbach, 73, died May 13, 1960 at Shadyside Hospital. He was a chiropractor for over 40 years, and practiced with his son, Dr. L. Leigh Steinbach. He was a graduate of Palmer Chiropractic College, where he later served as dean, and was vice-president of Lincoln Chiropractic College in Lincoln, IN. He was a member of the National Chiropractic Association and past president of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his wife, Alice Stenbach; a son, Dr. Leigh Steinbach; two daughters, Sylvia Chauvin and Virginia Starr; four brothers, Clarence, Albert J., Jerome H. and Edward P.; two sisters, Leona Miller and Emma Klinger; and 6 grandchildren.
