this story is about : truth, beauty, freedom, and LOVE

ok. obsessions... hmm... i don't know why i'm obsessed with the movie so damn much. . . i like all the actors/actresses, but i didn't go see it for one of them particularly, you know? i guess it's the whole bohemian ideas that i liked. the play RENT is based on La Boheme, so it also is very bohemian and i've loved that play forever. also, the filming techniques baz luhrmann uses just stun me. it's like i'm in the middle of a dream that is even too elaborate for me to imagine.
the world (according to my former english professor) goes through cycles of romantic periods, and realist periods. we're stuck in a realistic one right now. . . only her'es the thing. the trend USED To be it changed every 100 years or so, on it's own. but then in 1900 it started going crazy, flipping back and forth every 10 years... but now.. . we've been in this swing of realism for welllll over 10 years. the thing i'm worried about is getting stuck here for 100 years! how frightening and dark the world has become. . . there's no reason for half the shit that goes on, pardon the use of my noun. but this world frustrates the hell outta me sometimes. i'm not going to get into it right now.
1. henri de tolouse lautrec- artist- gay- 4'11"- 2. eurydice-(eur-id-i-cee)- greek mythology... orpheus, the god of music, fell in love with eurydice. however, she fell dead to the underworld. orpheus was so popular with his music that the lord of the underworld let him go after her to take her back to the world.. however, the one rule was that he must trust her completely and not look back to make sure she would follow... he was almost all the way back to the world when he turned and lost her forever. there are other minute details, but that is the jist of it. 3. the moulin rouge... ahhh... i could go on and on. .. the elephant was real, made of wood, housed animals, opium den and where the ladies took men. harold zidler was indeed a co-owner of the club. "chocolat" from the movie (the black man who caught satine and protected her) was based on a real man from the real club, also named Chocolat. the story of the movie is completely fictional. there was no satine. the real famous lady from the moulin rouge was JaneAvril. tolouse-lautrec did many studies on her. his art work isn't the most detailed, but it still is very breath-taking.
i think a reason a lot of people didn't like the movie was because it was not your typical "hollywood" movie where man meets woman, man falls in love, and everything is perfect. it takes a lot to appreciate a film like this. it does not have a perfect ending... it's like real life. . . and i think a lot of people go to the movies to escape from that aspect. another movie (besides the obvious romeo and juliet, also by baz) that does not end perfectly is Autumn In New York. . . my mom hated it. i loved it. but, we should not hold it against those people who didn't like it because of the lack of escape from life. society has built into them, and many people, that a movie is fake, so you're supposed to be happy. and when a movie is sad, it's like they were not entertained, just reminded that life is precious and can be taken away. that love can be taken away. so while i wish they loved the movie like we all did, i can't hold it against them. it is not their fault the way our society works. "we" pay movie industries to make us happy. i get so wrapped up in banning society from my own life (in ways), that i neglect to remember a lot of people still believe in it.
