faqs and rules:

::want a layout? read this first::

I. what we need to know from you:

~who you want to make your layout: you must not post this publicly, you may email me privately or email the person. a list of myself and the affiliates can be found here along with their info and examples of their work. just b/c someone has more examples in their gallery doesn't mean that they are better or more popular. some people request to not have their layouts included in galleries and some people become affiliates later than others. use their available examples in deciding as to whom you would like to do your layout. if you have no preference, you may say that in your public request and your request will be given to the first person who wants to do it or who has the time to do it.

~ what is your resolution set to? mine is 1024*768 and the other affiliates may have different settings. if yours is different, we need to know so that we can test it with your settings while we work on it.

~ your ideas: colors, themes, font style, any images you want, examples of other people's journals/websites that you like, basically any ideas that you have in mind.

~ how you want to give the layout designer credit...see section II below.

it may sound like a no-brainer to you, but just saying "make me something pretty!" actually makes it harder on us. we don't know you or what your personality is like or what the things are that you like. so unless you have a specific purpose (i.e. a website that has a point or a theme or something to sell), we have no idea where to start. and chances are, as we send you rough drafts, there will always be something you don't like or want changed or whatever. it will save us all a lot of time and effort if you have some idea what you want to start with. we are more than happy to have artistic freedom, and to give you input and ideas, but this is supposed to reflect you and who you are, not the layout designer.

II. what we ask in return:

~ credit: the designer must receive credit somewhere. options are: a link in your "bio" that says something like "layout by ::dark moon designs::" in any size font would be awesome but is not required, however, we would at least like a post in your journal giving the designer credit. or if it doesn't bother you too much, the designer could just add their "signature" in a non-overbearing place on the background image.

we are not trying to be rude by saying that you have to give the designer credit, but some of us are trying to make a living (or would like to) out of this and others of us just like doing it and every example that we can use to show people our work, helps. plus, it's just nice to give credit where credit is due.

III. other:

~ when making a request, please make it in a new post. do not reply to a previous post unless you have a question about that post. asking for layouts in new posts makes it easier to see in what order the requests were made. if you make a request as a reply in a post on monday and others make theirs in new posts on say, wed. we will most likely see theirs first and start working on it. we will probably not go back through every post each day to look for requests. it's more organized this way.

~ please try to be patient and understanding: we really love doing this and we want to help everyone that we can, but until this becomes a viable way for us to support ourselves, please understand that we also have regular jobs and school, some of us go to school and/or work full time. we will try to reply to everyone each night, and will work on the layout(s) in all our spare time, but if a day goes by and you don't hear anything, please don't freak out. chances are the designer will check back with you no later than 48-72 hours after you post/email them. patience is a virtue...there are only a couple of us working on these.

~do not send the designer your password for any reason. we would never do anything bad and we are honest people, but it is against dark moon designs' policy to take on the responsibility of having your password in case something happens or someone does break into your account. when the time comes for the designer to put the code into your journal, they will have you change your password to something temporary until they make the changes and then you will change it back to your real password. that is the best and most secure way we have found...you should never give your password to anything out to anyone, especially a stranger even if it seems like it's no big deal.

~ if you ever have any problems or conflicts with an affiliate, or decide to ask for a new designer do not post about it in the community, your post will be removed the minute i see it. you should email me directly with any problems or concerns or if you wish to have someone else make your layout instead.

that's it for now, so, if everything is clear enough and you have no questions, make your request ^_^ !
