The Stephens Afican American Museum was opened in 1994 as a community sevice project of the Spencer Ray Stephens Foundation, Inc. It is a living museum decided to the preservation of African-American history, artifacts and documents.
The museum houses one of the best collections of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photographs of Afican American art in the state. The museum features a collection of Pre-Civil War artifacts. We offer rotating exhibits, so there's always something new to see.
Try to image what life must have been for African-Americans half a century ago? The Stephens African-American Museum attempts to recreate the setting and atmosphere of that period, clothing, wood-burning heaters, sewing machines, historic farm equipment and other fascinating items.
