ME!!!!Over here you can get all of the Baseball offseason free agent news, alittle dip into the NFL, good Parts about OSU's sports this year, the bad parts of U of O sports this year, and I'll try to update it every day! I'll tell you now, I love Baseball. I'll try to get my little league game journal entrys, stats, and my own records. It may take a while to get this section of my page underway, but sitting in front of a computer for hours on end writing backslash.com all day long I don't mind allthough, as I said, It'l take a while. So, if you want in depth coverage on all the sports all over the world, get lost. This is for local stuff only, and if not it is damn good stuff. Bon Voyage!
My favourite baseball team is The Seattle Mariners.

Mo Vaughn has got a deal landed in Anaheim, cal. After having to fight with the redsox, over poor management, since the allstar break, he finally had his contract end and was released as a free agent. Big mo is going to be respected in Anahiem as a good contact left handed power hitter. The Anaheim Angels were in the lead for most of this year until Texas finally overwhelmed them to win the AL West.

When? Why? Did he? Reports say Albert Belle has supposedly signed a 5 year $65,000,000 deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Yes, the free agent slugger supposedly had a 5 year $55,000,000 contract with chicago starting in '96, But the clause was this, he was to be released if he didn't remain the top3 highest payed player in baseball. With the White Sox still oweing him 33,000,000 over 3 years, they rejected the 4,250,000 raise per year thus he hit the market. Last season he hit .328 with 49 homers and 152 RBI's .655 Slugging leading the AL. Over his 8 year career he batted .296, 321 homers, 1019 RBI's. He has had 30 or more HR's and 100 or more RBI's for 7 years running. He has been suspended 6 times including an insident 2 years ago when he threw a baseball at a photogropher and had to be counseled. Miller (Orioles manager said that he doesn't have to be vocal to be a team leader. Belle has until Wednesday to answer to the White Sox $3,000,000 raise.

Seahawks win by the skin of their teeth!

The final score was 20-18. But the score 33 seconds earlier was 17-18. With 33 seconds left in the game, and your trailing by 1 on your own 1 yard line, you don't have much hope. But on a 51 yard drive on the first play for first down then the crowd started exploding. But alas, 4th down with 9 to go. With hope, the seahawks put Todd Peterson up for the punt. Peterson punted for the goal, from 48 yards out! And what was more suprizing, as seahawk fans had heads in hands as he kicked. It was a weak kick, but now with 2 seconds left it would have to do. Some fans brave enough would open their fingers just a little and they were lucky that they saw this. 5th in the NFL for longest good punt ever, a 48 yard field goal richoshaed off the bottom bar. it bounced high in the air. Time had expired. The ball landed right behind their goldposts. 27,963 seahawks fans jumped high into the air, screeming and yelling and popping whine, because Todd Peterson had kicked the game winner!

Stuff on the trade of Randy Johnson to the D-backs (4 hours old!!!)

On whether there was an obligation to the season ticket holders to sign a marquee player like Randy Johnson:
Well, I’d like to think that by this time, after 30 years in the marketplace, that people know that there’s a commitment to improving our product, whenever and however we can. We made a major investment. We’re trying to protect that investment. We’re competitive people. We want to win now rather than later. And so, the beneficiaries are the people who follow the team and support it, whether it be season ticket sales or individual ticket sales. We want to have a good product. We want to compete and when you have those things going for you, you’re going to be well-supported.

On how he convinced a player with shoulder-length hair and a goatee to play for a manager who wants clean shaven players:
Well, he asked me about some of our policies and I told him that Buck was getting a little more flexible on policies. But, there is a funny story. He said, 'Well, what about the hair?’ And I said, `Well, Randy, look at it this way: If you had tattoos from the top of your head to the bottom of your toes, and you had a big ring out of your nose along with your long hair, I’d say pass. But since that’s not the case, we’ll take you with your hair and we’ll work with those deficiencies later.’

THE DEAL SET a record both for total dollars and average annual value ($15 million). The previous high for average salary, $13.33 million, was set less than two weeks ago, when first baseman Mo Vaughn agreed Nov. 25 to an $80 million, six-year contract with the Anaheim Angels.

Stuff on the $105,000,000 signing on Kevin Brownt to LA.

The previous high for dollars was set Oct. 23, when catcher Mike Piazza agreed to a $91 million, seven-year deal with the New York Mets. "We think Kevin Brown is a big part of our future," Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone said. "We're comfortable with the terms. We feel like we logically evaluated the marketplace. We needed the player, we wanted the player and we made the commitment to our fans to becoming a winning team." Breaking the $100 million mark is sure to bring an outcry among some owners against Rupert Murdoch, who took over the Dodgers in March. With Murdoch's billions, Los Angeles has made major upgrades in an effort to return to the World Series for the first time since 1988. "I never thought we'd see the day of a $91 million player," said Dodgers senior vice president Tom Lasorda, who is Piazza's godfather. "There's only one thing certain in baseball — nothing is certain." Brown gets a $5 million signing bonus, $10 million next year and $15 million in each of the following six seasons. As part of the deal, the Dodgers will give him the use of a private plane 12 times per season to commute to Los Angeles from Brown's home in Macon, Ga. He also gets a no-trade clause. Anaheim, Baltimore, Colorado and St. Louis also were among the finalists for Brown, a 33-year-old right-hander who went 18-7 with a 2.38 ERA for San Diego this year. He helped Florida win the World Series in 1997, then was traded to the Padres as part of the Marlins' payroll purge and helped San Diego reach for the World Series for the first time since 1984. "As I told him, he makes the rest of the pitchers better pitchers," Lasorda said. "I told him, 'You don't need to say one word to be a leader. What you do and the way you pitch makes you a leader.' " Brown's agent Scott Boras, had said since last summer he would get his client a deal at least six years long and approach or set record numbers. Brown's value increased when he led the Padres into the World Series against the Yankees. "Everyone knows the value of a No. 1 pitcher," Boras said Friday night. "The premium is Kevin Brown has taken a good club and put it in the World Series." Since the end of the season, Los Angeles agreed to a $12.4 million, three-year contract with center fielder Devon White and a $6.5 million, three-year contract with reliever Alan Mills. The Dodgers also acquired catcher Todd Hundley and reliever Mel Rojas from the New York Mets, lost free agent pitchers have Scott Radinsky and Brian Bohanon and dealt outfielder Bobby Bonilla to New York.
