K'lantel and Jareth's Weyr

none
As you walk into a weyr, a small smiling boy of 12 turns with a rounded face beckons you inside. You introduce youself and ask whom he is. He merely smiled at you, his bright light brown eyes twinkling. You ask again, and again he said nothing. Then he gestures for you to come over to a table in the weyr. Upon is was a slate board and a piece of chalk. He quickly scribbles something on it and shows it to you. It read:

My name is K'lantel. I am a mute.

You turn slightly red. K'lantel shakes is head, still smiling and writes:

Its okay, you didn't know!

You then cannot think of anything to ask, wondering if it would be too lengthy to write on a slate board. Being accustomed to such thoughts, the boy dashed over to his bed where a scroll lay atop it and he handed the scroll to you. He gestures for you to sit in a near-by rocking chair, and for you to read the scroll. You sit down and open it up. The handwriting was very neat and easy to read.

My name is K'lantel, and I wrote this for visitors, thinking that they would want to know a brief history of myself. Not that I am so important, but its the easiest way to communicate.

I was born at Harper Hall to a kind MasterSinger - my dear mother. Though she never said it, I know she had hoped that her son would become a singer just like her, but then I was born voiceless. I know she felt that she had failed somewhere. But she loved me just the same and told me so, and tried to help me as much as she could. But the only thing she knew was singing. I proved only mediocre on musical instruments, so I wasn't really useful to Harper Hall at all. Many there thought that because I was mute that I was also deaf or stupid, and some made some no so nice comments. Mother would always say its because people are afriad of what they don't understand, why, just look at the dragons, people used to scorn them until thread fell again and they realized they needed them. And that someday I would be needed to. So I cherished the dreams of dragons.

Well one day, a lady on a green dragon came on a search, and the dragon looked right at me and told her rider that I would be a fine candidate! You should have seen the dumbfounded looks on some of the people's faces!! Especially those bully apprentices! SO I came to the weyr here, and I am a candidate at Jerdan Weyr.

I would so like to impress a dragon, because I want to make my mother proud, and prove that I am not dumb - surely a dragon would never choose a fool! And I have always had to communicate with people through paper or slate, through gestures, all these secondary methods, never directly. And I hope, that by impression, I will finally have a friend who I can talk with directly, since the dragons can talk in your head! And maybe he can help me tell my thoughts to others as well! That is why I want to impress most of all!

As you finish, you look up and smile warmly at the lad. He nodded satisfactorily, having gotten his thoughts and feelings across to his visitor. He pointed at the dragon couch and gave a thumbs up.

Suddenly you felt a presence in your head, full of adoration. So he has impressed me! I like talking to people! My name is Jareth. A large bronze dragon looked at you from a depression in the dragon couch.

You were surprised to hear a dragon talk to you, let alone the large bronze peering at you. K'lantel's smile became even more wide. The bronze blinked slepily, then laid his had back down and quickly fell asleep again.

Sorry we can't speak with you more, but Jareth is tired.

K'lantel shrugged his shoulders happily. You exclaim that it was an honor speaking with him and Jareth, and happily leave the weyr to visit elsewhere.
