| - Corys are called armoured cat fish who only live in the whole South America.
They are very lovely, peaceful, and coward a little bit. They love to stay in the shadow area
under the bogwood, rock, and stone. There are more than 300 species of Corydoras in the South
America. The three corys, aeneus, albino aeneus, and paleatus, are mainly seen in the United
States. |

Paradise of Cory in Japan and Germany |
|
- Compared to the United States, corys are very popular among the Japanese fish
lovers. Although there exists more than 300 species of Corydoras, 100 out of 300 species
are sold in Japanese fish shops. Some people are willing to pay a lot of money to get a
beautiful and precious corys.
- Some Germany discovered new species of Corydoras and discribe them in the books. |

What is the Beautiful corys?
|
|
|
- The fundamental condition of the beautiful
corys is healthy. In addition, the Japanese
aquarists want to buy the good corys, whose
bodies have a beautiful pattern such as lines
and dots. The good corys tend to have a long
barbel, although there are two types of berbel,
long-snoted and short-snoted.
- What is the beautiful pattern? The left
picture shows Corydoras arcuatus who have
two black lines from the berbel to the tail displaying
an arch. If these two
lines are close to each other, the cory lovers
regard him as rare. Some Japanese cory lovers
buy this cory spending a lot. Unfortunately,
the right picture is the normal arcuatus.
The fascination of cory is so profound...

Your corys are healthy? - how to distinguish
healthy corys - |
|
- Corys basically don't often move back and
forth (depend on species)
but just stay under a wood and stone
except in the meal time. The healthy corys
love to eat most foods such as artificial
feed(flak and tablet) and living, dried and
frozen worms (Some corys, especially
long-snoted corys don't eat flake).
When they have such feeds, they move and
try to find them rigorously. When they are
not fine, they don't move and keep quiet
even if they are given feeds. The unhealthy
cory sometimes folds up its fins. The unhealthy
corys also swim in the upper level of a water
tank without any purpose. That will be the
one of signs if they are sick.

- There are so many species of corys, which are discovered and undiscovered,
but I would like to introduce popular corys. If you would like to see the picture, just
click the name (Sorry that some sps don't have pictures). |
|
- Corydoras aeneus - just a regular cory.
- Corydoras albino aeneus - the albino type of aeneus.
- Corydoras paleatus - it's sometimes called "spotted cory" or "peppered cory."
- Corydoras sterbai - big and timid cory. The body pattern has many white spots
on the black colored base with orange colored fin. To the contrary, C. haraldcschultzi
have many plack spots in the white colored base.
- Corydoras panda - as its name tells, the body pattern looks like Giant Panda in China.
- Corydoras adolfoi - it is one of most beautiful corys. The symbol is the light orange
color on the head and black colored band on the back.
- Corydoras julii - similar to sterbai a little bit.
- COrydoras trilineatus - almost same as julii, but the body pattern is different a little.
- Corydoras delphax - the long nose type (see below "long nose vs.. short nose").
Many tiny spots are on its body.
- Corydoras elegans - there are many different types of elegance species.
(see "Corydoras elegans")
- Corydoras arcuatus - the common name is skunk from two black lines.
- Corydoras schwartzi - there are two black straight lines on the body.
- Corydoras parallelus - the common name is correai. It is one of the most expensive corys.
The body pattern is silimar to schwartzi.

- This cory lives in the all over the area
in the South America. So, its shape and color
is different in each area even though each
name is aeneus. As long as I know, the color
of this cory is normally bronzed pink such as
the left picture, but
there are blue, green, and orange colored
type. The cory lovers like these minor differences
of this cory.

- C.elegans also lives in most area of the
South America. Both figure and color of this
cory are different in each area as those
of aeneus corys are. C.elegans has the characteristic
shape. There are many kinds of corys which
has this shape (attension to berbel and mouth
in the left picture!). Most corys love to stay under
the wood and rock, but corys in the elegance group tends to
stay on the wood and rock.
- The left picture shows Corydoras nijsseni,
but most elegance species look like this with
different body patterns.
