GENEAOLOGY

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas. Great-great-grandfather, Lyman Phillips, was an Irishman who married a woman from Spain on the boat to America. They settled in Kentucky but the tobacco farm was razed by the local tribe so they left for Texas before the Civil War broke out.

Lyman's son, Charlie, became the Clerk/Sheriff of Lone Star County in Texas. His son, Jorge (George), was my grandfather. He was a farmer and liquor store owner; his brother was a pharmacist. He and his wife, Delfina (Dolphin), had about 9 kids. His brother, tio Melessio, played as an extra in the movie, Viva Zapata, with Marlon Brando and Anthony Quinn. He was in the early scene as one of the peasants in the delegation confronting the president of Mexico. He is the one with the extra long ears. Many years later, my aunt Tiny Bravo became a lover of Anthony Quinn.

My paternal grandmother, Delfina Chapa, spoke Spanish but she descended from Moorish Moroccan lineage.

My mother has Spanish ancestry but there is a very strong possibility that her family were descendants of Sephardic Jews who had been expelled from Spain in 1492. My maternal grandfather was Jesus Romero and his father-in-law was Joaquin Burruel, both buried in the cemetery near the San Xavier Mission in Tucson, along with my uncle, Roy Romero. Joaquin had donated his farmland which was right next to the Mission to the tribe so that they could build their school on it. As an aside, I remember my grandmother, Brigida Burruel telling me of a tragic instance of genocide inflicted on the Indians when she was a little girl. There was a trading post that sold sugar to the Indian children on a regular basis. On one horrible day, they mixed ground glass in it before giving it to the Indian kids. As a result, all their entrails fell out and they bled to death.

NARRATIVE SUMMARY

All in All, I have had some astounding events happen to me in my lifetime, most of which I cannot tell about because they would be too much for you to believe. My keen hypersentivity has led me to great perception and compassion but at the expense of some stability. So I have struggled, adapted, juked, jumped and tried again with events which have led me to deal with every human circumstance. In doing so, I have learned solutions to monumental roadblocks: stonewalling, barbarism, insecurity, selfishness and the myriad tricks of the mind. So my destiny, as it turns out, is to relish in finding solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems for the whole of society. My hope is to create a new Arizona and a new world in the process of being happy. May love overwhelm you!
