History
The band started as Tricky Beans in Winter 1996. A song called "Blackout" made it in top 40 in Radiomafia(Radio station in Finland)"Hitsong contest" among over 500 songs sent.
Played in Jyrki Sähkösirkus, twice.
They released their second demo "Agre pampers" in winter 1997. In march 1997 they got thru cassette phase of Rock ´97 competition. But not further...
In march they also released third demo "Peacemaker". Summer ´97 was quiet. In fall the band was in crisis. Former basist Pena was asked to turn over the bass-playing duty to Make, the guy who played the 2nd guitar.
New songs were rehearsed and many old ones were left out. In the process they decided to abandon the old name. Tricky Beans had changed their name to radically to Tricky means. A lot of confusion about the name.
Year ´98 was not exactly a historical year for the band. But since Make didn´t have much enthusiasm to continue as basist he decided to quit and a new basist, Janne, joined the band in Nowember.
In January ´99 band went to studio to record their 4th demo "Fullmoon". The band signed a record contract with Spinefarm records in April and changed their name to Sonata Arctica.
Their debute single "UnOpened" was released 15th July ´99 and the band was also included on "Metalliliitto 1999" and "Millenniumliitto" compilations.
