Tearin’ Up My Heart, Chapter Three

CRASH!!!

The bus plowed into the bug sitting in the middle of the road.

"MY CAR!" Molly screamed as the bus continued to displace the car in the direction of where they were standing further down the highway. The mass of metal screamed out in protest as it kept sliding towards them. "MY CAR!" Molly bellowed again as the heap groaned out before finally giving in to the friction of the blacktop and coming to a morbid stop in front of them. They continued to gape at the now unmoving mass that was once their car, the macabre silence of the night again engulfing them. "MY CAR!" Molly stated again.

"I'm not quite sure it is anymore," Danny observed as he neared the smoldering wreck. "Think it'll run?"

"Maybe we should work on detaching it from the bus first," AP commented.

"MY CAR!" Molly once again screamed, still gazing at the wreck.

"Yes, it's the car! And it has been demolished by a bus! Enough!" AP said, addressing his sister before turning back to the accident. "I wonder who was in the bus?" He began to walk towards the door as something tumbled down the stairs into the door, its face attractively pressed against the glass. AP opened the door and the person inside, his support removed, fell out onto the pavement.

"Oooohh... candy..." the sprawled figure mumbled. "Candy... hiding... candy..." Finishing, his head fell backwards onto the highway.

"Is it... dead?" Danny quivered as he approached the still figure.

"I'm pretty sure its safe to say that this is a 'he,' and I'm not sure if its dead..." AP picked up the wrist of the man lying in front of him.

"NO!" He said, jumping as soon as he felt his wrist being taken. He got up, staggered about 5 steps, and collapsed again onto the road mumbling something about candy-stealing pixies. They stared at him for a minute before noises were heard coming from within the bus.

"I guess we should see if anyone else is on the bus," AP said as he climbed the steps of the bus.

"Is anyone in there?" Danny called up the steps.

AP saw a blond and a dark-haired guy sitting up from a couch and a guy next to him on the floor. There was another guy with dark brown hair on the floor coming from a hallway near the back of the bus and a driver behind the wheel. "There's 5 guys in here," he called to Danny. "Is anyone badly hurt?" Everyone seemed able to get up as he called to them.

"What happened?" the dark-haired man asked as he pulled himself off the ground. “Did we hit something? Who are you?” he added, noticing AP.

“I, well, actually my car, is what you hit. And made a pretty good mess out of,” AP replied. "My name is AP."

“Are you guys okay?” the dark haired man called to his 3 other companions as they got up. Everyone gave affirmative murmurs. The dark-haired man called them over and introduced them to AP. “I’m Chris, this is Lance, that’s JC, and there’s Justin.” After looking around him he added, “Where’s Joey?”

“Some guy fell off the bus. I think he’s lying on the highway outside,” AP answered. After making sure the driver wasn’t injured, they filed out of the bus.

“Joey... Joey! Get up!” Chris said as he poked his friend with a stick. The other 4 passengers introduced themselves to Molly and Danny. Everyone then turned to examine the car. “Whoa! That is one wrecked car!” Chris observed.

“My car!” Molly said agitatedly, vocalizing the only phrase she had uttered in the last five minutes.

“We’ll definitely have to call a tow truck,” AP observed. “Does any of you happen to have a phone on you?” He turned back to the men he had just met, each of whom was holding out a cell phone as the one on the ground waved one in the air from his sedative state.

“You guys travel prepared,” AP murmured as he accepted Justin's phone. Joey was actually closer, but after eyeing him warily, AP decided to accept one of the others. He began dialing the number on Molly's AAA card.

“So... are you guys... business men or something?” Molly asked, regaining her composure.

“We sing,” offered the blond one with spiky hair. “We're a vocal group.”

“Oh... are you going to a show or something?”

“We’re on our way to Minnesota for a our next performance.”

“The tow truck is on its way,” AP announced, turning back to the group of people. “They said it will be about 2 hours.”

“Wow. I am so sorry we did this to your car,” the one who introduced himself to Molly as Justin said as he observed the wreck. “Would you guys like to wait on the bus?”

Thunder rolled overhead as the three agreed and they all boarded the bus, which was much warmer than the cooling night air.
