First of all, This is not a cure all and what I write here can get ya started in the right direction. But as long as we will eternally have different operating systems, different hardware, and ultamately different setups, I cant guarante that anything will work. But I dont mind helping with the knowledge I have. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours.
Okay, first things first. If you find this page helpful you can help me by annoying a guy called MAC-THE-GUN. His Quake server is called OLD-WORLD-HPB and his server address is 65.117.140.6:27540. He is a pussy quake player that camps quads, has them all timed, and plays the same 2 maps over and over again so he can do it. Watch, just die by a quad and stay dead. He will appear literally like 3 seconds after quad re appears. So, go call him a pussy and say Tails owns him. Hehe But prepare to get banned cuz he has opps. A little heckling never hurt anyone!!! : )
Some interesting gl commands: Type in console <`> key (when in glquake, omit < > and ( ).)
gl_lightmap (1,0) Turns map walls white. (1)
gl_flashblend (1,0) Lights
quad and rocket flashes. WARNING! This command will seriously lag your internet
play!!! Keep it off for online gaming. (Keep at 1)
r_mirroralpha (0, 0.3,
0.8, 1) Turns stained glass into a mirror. (0 is full mirror)
r_novis (0,1)
Needed for transparent water. (set to 1 for water transparency)
r_wateralpha
(0, .3, .8, 1) Alters water opacity. (0 = clear)
68.69.67.112:27500
You would pull down the console (`) and type this exactly without the (). (connect 68.69.67.112:27500) The first part is the persons ip address, the second is the default port. (27500) What? you dont have gamespy?
Okay, well just go to www.gamespy.com and download either gamespy3d, or gamespy arcade. I personally recommend 3d. So, just download to your desktop and load it like any other program, it will search for any games on your computer. It should tell you it finds quakeworld, and you gotta do 2 things: (1) right click quakeworld in the left hand column, and select update master servers. It will tell you whos on what servers you can connect to. There are mods out there (Different versions of the same game) If you connect to any other mod other than qw, or dm (deathmatch), you'r computer will take some time to download some additional files to play that specific mod. Teamfortress, ctf (capture the flag), matador, rune, requiem, or arena are a few. The second thing you should do is change the command line. (As you did before) But its listed under file|games and filters|quake (specify quake should be c:\quake)|quakeworld|commandline. Click this and your command line should read (glqwcl.exe) You can also add the resolution or devote ram to your gameplay, like this: (glqwcl.exe -width xxx -heigth xxx -heapsize xxxxxx) Where as x represents the screen size res you want (example 320 x 480) and heapsize is = to the amount or ram you want to devote. Half your ram is recommended. (example 128000)
Okay, just some common Quake definitions for New b's.
If someone calls you a "LLAMA" OR "QUAD LLAMA":
(1) Slang - Loser, dork,
geek. He is most likely making fun of you or your playing style.
If someone calls you a "QUAD GOBBLER":
(1) Slang Verb - You are likely
timing quad regeration, it can be considered camping. (2) Mac-the-Gun
CAMPER/CAMPING
(1) Verb - One who stands at a respawn spot, powerup item,
or generally guarding any likely spot a player is likely to be for the sole
purpose of killing that person and attaining higher frags.
CHEAP
(1) Noun - One who plays unfair, also known to be accompanied by
"bastard", as in, "CHEAP BASTARD!" and is generally considered bad form. (2)
Mac-the-Gun (3) Bunny Hopping
Bunny Hopping is a glitch in the game quake. If you tweak the settings, the strafe keys and jump all at the same time you can get a speed advantage over other players. It is generally considered an "acceptable skill", although I personally think its a cheap way to pawn more frags off people and claim your better than them. : )
