A historical record of all of the band directors of the Rockwood Band Program, past and present...
The Rockwood Band Program has existed in several forms throughout the years. Rockwood, Tennessee once even had a town band, and a resident German band called the Tauscher Band. Within the Rockwood Schools, there was already a ground work for band started. There were majorettes before the band was started, on record in the yearbooks in the early forties. Rockwood also had a drill team that would march during halftime dating back to around the same time. One member of the Rockwood Town Band went on to form the Rockwood Band Program within our schools. That man was Wilmer Shamhart. Assisting him during those early days with the formation of the school bands was Howard Booth and one of another of Rockwood’s alumni, director Bruce ault.
