Journal of a Living Lady #138
Nancy White Kelly
Last week a young couple from a near-by college went down to Atlanta to help supervise a church youth group at an all-night rally. They made the rounds from a hockey game, to the bowling alley, to the ice-skating rink. They were tired from an already busy day of classes, but the adrenaline was pumping. Both were responsible young people, not too far removed from those youthful activities themselves. On the brink of college graduation, they are only one step ahead of those they shepherded.
When the night activities had worn down, the two-some left for a side trip of their own. In the pitch black they startled a guard at the Stone Mountain Park to see if they could hike to the top. The wind was howling. The cold made its way to their bones.
The couple was allowed inside the gate. With flash lights illuminating the way, they climbed the winding trails to the very top. It was still too dark for any inspirational, spectacular view. The sun would surely rise soon. It was going to be a wonderful day. The young man just knew it.
Slowly the top of the orange orb faithfully emerged from the east. The panoramic view of all Atlanta began to come into focus. Eventually a spectacular sunrise came in full array. The skyline was crystal clear. The breezy air was wholesomely fresh. It was time.
Meticulously the young man reached into his pocket. His quivering hand brought forth an exquisite velvet box. On bended knee, he asked the beautiful, long-haired maiden if she would be his mate for eternity..
Numb from both the cold and the pending question, the shaking young lady opened the box containing a heart-shaped engagement ring. The huge mountain seemed to shake as the girl jumped up and down repeatedly in ecstatic joy.
“Yes. Yes. Oh, yes.” Her excited screams echoed throughout the valley below. She was going to be a bride.
Buddy and I happily announce to you the engagement of our only begotten son,
Charles Edward Kelly, to Tori Danielle Hooks.
