Like us, Alan and Sunnie were

This wedding of Sunnie Anne
and Alan was unusual in some ways. I got to be Matron of Honor and stand-in for
“Mother of the Bride” since our parents are deceased. Our 6’3” super-sized baby
brother, Bob, was best man. My elder brother, Charles, tearfully gave the bride
away. My middle brother, Mike, was an usher. So was our son, Charlie, who lit endless
candles and seated the groom’s mother.
My sister and I share a
unique history. When she was born, I graduated from high school. When Sunnie
Anne graduated from high school, Charlie was born. He married in the summer of
2002. She wed summer, 2003. When the three of us, Sunnie Anne, Charlie, and I
are together, most people assume that I am the grandmother, she the mother, and
Charlie her son. Don’t they know that sometimes wonderful miracles happen? Babies
are born to mothers late in life, particularly when they are obsessively wanted
and prayerfully requested.
Will Alan and Sunnie Anne
start a family at their age? Probably not, but I know a potentially great mother
when I see one. Sunnie Anne has been a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, and
friend. No doubt she will be an extraordinary wife. Just hope that man of her’s
realizes what a treasure he has betrothed.
As I write this, the

Love ya, sis.
