Cute Country Square
This is a fairly easy square to make. If you find the last round confusing, just work it in one colour.
small amount of 3 ply worsted weight yarn
Col A : country blue
Col B : dusty rosesize 4.5 crochet hook
with col A, ch 4, sl to form a ring
RDN 1: ch 3 (counts as first dc) 11 dc in ring, join with sl to first dc. Finish off col A
RDN 2: join Col B with sl in any st, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, join with sl to first hdc. Finish off Col B.
RDN 3: join Col A with sl in any st, ch 4 (counts as first dc + ch 1), dc in same st, ch 2, sk next 2 sts, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, ch 2, sk next 2 sts, rep from *, 6 MORE times, join with sl to first dc. Finish off Col A.
RDN 4: join Col B with sl in any ch 2 sp, ch 3(counts as first dc) (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp [ *ch 2, 3 dc in next ch 2 sp, ch 2*, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 2 sp] 3 times, then rep between * * once, join with sl
RDN 5: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next sp, sc in next 2 sts [* 2 sc in next sp, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next sp* , sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next sp, sc in next 2 st] 3 times, then rep between * * once more, join with sl to first st, finish off.
RDN 6: working in Back loops only, join col A in centre sc on corner 3 sc group. ch 5 (counts as 1st dc + ch 2), dc in smae st, dc in each st around, workin (dc, ch 2, dc) in each corner st (the 2nd sc of 3 sc group from prev. rnd), join with sl to first dc (3rd ch), pulling up a loop of col B at the same time.
RND 7: NOTE: in this round, alternate 2 dc in col A and 2 dc in col B, wokring sts over the strand of the colour that you're not using for the stitch (ex.: if you're making 2 dc in blue, hold the pink yarn on top of the previous row, and work the sts so that the pink is hidden by the stitches) See picture for example. Following the pattern of 2 dc in col A, 2 dc in col B, work dc in each st around, working 3 dc in corner sps. Join with sl to first dc. Finish off. (36 dc in col A, 36 dc in col B)
