Dr. Jean Watson(PhD, RN, FAAN) is a unique nursing theorist. Her theory is based on humanistic perspective combined with a scientific knowledge base.
Dr. Jean Watson is a nursing professor and a director of caring at the Center for Human Caring at the University of Colorado. She has traveled internationally throughout the world and therefore she is internationally recognized.

Dr. Jean Watson recieved her nursing diploma from Lewis Gale Hospital, Roanoke, VA; her BS in nursing from the University of Colorado, Boulder; her MS in psychiatric-mental health nursing from the University of Colorado, Denver; and her Phd in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has pracitced nursing in private practice, as a clinical consultant, nurse researcher, faculty member, and educational administrator. She is Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and has recieved numerous other awards and honors, including a Visiting Kellong Fellowsjip at Western Australia Institute of Technology and an International Fulbright Awaard. She holds honorary doctorates from Assumption College, Worcester, MA, and the University of Akron, OH. Watson has been an invited distinguished lecturer in numerous countries such as Israel, Canada, Japan, Australia, and Taiwan as well as in United States. She is the author of numerous articles, books, chapters, and two books. Her research has been in the area of human caring and loss.
