Answers to Frequently Asked "How Do I" Doll Care Questions

How do I remove a doll's lip color?

What You Will Need:
•Q-tips
•Oops All-purpose Remover (can be purchased at Wal-Mart)
•A plastic cup or container
•Alcohol

Put some of the remover into your cup, with your Q-Tip begin carefully removing lip paint. When all color is removed, use rubbing alcohol to clean. Let dry.

How do I repaint a doll's lip color?

What You Will Need:
•A small, thin artist brush
•Acrylic paint
•A paper towel

Dip brush into paint, blot on paper towel. Outline the lips. Fill in the rest and let dry.

How do I repair porcelain fractures (broken fingers and other smooth breaks)? Note: This is a quick fix to prevent more damage.

What You Will Need:
For fingers breaks you will need:
•Super Glue
•A clean cloth

For fractures or smooth breaks, you will need:
•Quick Set clear epoxy (the two part kind, can be purchased a Wal-Mart)
•A cement tile and a knife

Finger repair: Apply the glue to the broken parts and put back together matching up fractured edges. Use towel to wipe off any glue that may have run down finger or that is around finger. (Try to avoid letting this happen.)

For fractures or smooth breaks: Mix the epoxy on the tile. Spread a thin coat over the fracture or smooth break. Work fast because epoxy dries fast. Let dry. Because the epoxy dries fast, this is not recommended for places that clothing will not cover, such as the face.

How do I re-wig my doll?

What You Will Need:
•Tacky glue or doll hair glue

Turn wig inside out. Place glue around the cap of the wig. Place crown of wig on center of head and roll down on doll’s head. Adjust the fit. Allow time to dry.

How do I keep the sides of a doll’s wispy wig in place?

What you will need:
•Tacky glue or doll hair glue
•A disposable glove

Lift the ends of the wispy wig to expose the doll’s head. Apply a dab of tacky glue to a gloved finger. Thinly spread the glue around the sides of the doll's head that the wig covers. Remove the glove. Place the loose hair down on the head the way you desire for the hair to lie. Allow to dry. This will prevent the loose ends of hair from getting out of place when the doll’s head is manipulated.

How do I measure a doll’s foot for new shoes?

What you will need:

•Your doll's socked or bare foot
•A piece of cardboard larger than your doll's foot
•Scissors
•A pen or pencil

If your doll will be wearing socks with the shoes, put a sock on the doll's foot. Trace your doll's foot onto the cardboard. Cut this out. Take the foot tracing with you to the store. Use the cardboard to put inside the shoes to check for fit.

How do I measure or determine the clothing size to purchase for a large doll of 28-36 inches without taking the doll shopping with me?

What You Will Need:
•A pocket-size tape measure

For Dresses: First measure your doll from the top of the shoulder down to where you want your doll's dress to end. Write this down.

For short or long pants: Measure the doll's inseam to the area of the leg where you desire the long or short pants to end. Write this down. For waist size, measure your doll's waist and divide by two.

Take your measurements and your tape measure with you. Measure the clothes just like you measured the doll. Compare your measurements. When measuring pants, only measure across the front of the waist. If pants have an elastic waist, you may want to deduct about an inch to allow room for the stretching that will occur once the pants are on the doll.
