Introduction
"(PLO is) one of the world's most violent and nebulous organizations," said in 1990 Senator William S. Cohen, Co-chairman of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee.
"Even those who follow the political and terroristic activities of the PLO would be amazed at its Byzantine structure," added Robert H. Kupperman, Senior Adviser of the Center for Strategic and International studies that same year.
Said then-U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz in December 1988:
"The U.S. government has convincing evidence that PLO elements have engaged in terrorism against Americans and others. This evidence includes a series of operation undertaken by Force 17 and Hawari organizations since the PLO claimed to forswear the use of terrorism in the Cairo Declaration of November 1985.
As chairman of the PLO, Mr. Arafat is responsible for actions of these organizations which are units of Fatah, an element of the PLO of which he is a chairman and which is under his control. The most recent sign of Mr. Arafat's association with terrorism was the presence at the Algiers session of the Palestine National Council (PNC) this month of Abu Abbas, a member of the executive committee of the PLO who has been convicted by the Italian judicial system of the murder of an American citizen, Mr. Leon Klinghoffer. (Klinghoffer was a wheel chair-ridden American Jew who was killed and thrown overboard while traveling on a ship in the Mediterranean Sea. I will speak further on the topic later.)"
Speaking in front of 40 Arabic diplomats in January 1996, Yassir Arafat promised that once he will establish an independent Palestinian state, he'll destroy Israel and make the life of Jews in the Palestinian state impossible, thus getting rid of Jews.
Six months later he added, "we know only one word -- Jihad, Jihad, Jihad."
"The Kalashnikov [the Soviet-designed AK-47] is our only language until we free all of Palestine," stated Abu Jihad, Arafat's best friend and right hand man until 1988, when he was assassinated by Israel.
Arafat's relative, Haj Amin Al Husseini (the Mufti of Jerusalem) declared shortly after resolution 181 (dividing Palestine into a Jewish and Muslim state) was passed: "I declare a holy war, my Moslem brothers! Murder the Jews! Murder them all!".
Despite undeniable evidence of Palestinian terrorism wrecking havoc throughout the world, and especially in Middle East, the world's richest terrorist organization enjoys respect of most world governments and is portrayed by the media as a moderate group of people that only want what righteously belongs to them.
There are a number of reasons for this. For one, the PLO is an extremely rich organization that can influence people's opinion's using its vast finances. Secondly, PLO's chairman Yasser Arafat and his "braintrust" are masters at presenting to the media their side of the story favorably, no matter how barbaric PLO's actions are. There are a lot of other reasons, of course, not the last of which is world-wide anti-Semitism.
