Even a well conditioned athlete is extremely weak in the hip thrust motion. I watch in amusement as powerful athletes struggle in disbelief when they attempt to do repetitions in the turning motion with only 20 pounds resistance. In a month they will be using 35 pounds and their performance will be steadily improving. At 50 pounds things will really be moving out. Top athletes use close to 100 pounds of resistance and throw very, very far!
In the first year, gains in throwing average from 10 to 20% with several 50% gains reported in the weight throw at both the high school and college levels. The concept is to rotate your body horizontally in a turning motion while raising a weight vertically with a cable through a series of 3 pulleys. What we named a Yoke is held firmly against your chest to isolate your body from the hips down and keep the leverage smooth and constant while turning.
The Turn Machine not only strengthens your hip flexors, it also improves the turning strength of your ankles, calves, knees, glutes and lower back. Keep in mind it is the hip swing that flings the legs forward when running and jumping. Double or triple the strength of that motion and good things begin to happen. The heavyweight, adjustable Standard Model sells for $339.00. BUT... knowing that the average reader of this website is an individual thrower or coach who simply may not have much money to spend, we have come up with a Special Edition Model for $165.00. (Not available from our dealers) It will have a lighter weight frame than the Standard Model and not be adjustable, but will work just fine. If you decide you want the heavier, adjustable frame later, you can order it anytime .
