Although with the proper keyboard, one player at the advanced levels can come very close to playing this type of song with most of the instruments and a melody line. The songs will sound very good and very full. However, a student who has only taken lessons a sho9rt period of time, or even only a couple of years. would not be able to play such a osmplicated song. Their version of the song will still sound great with a good keyboard, dualed sounds, and a split, but because we only have two hands, only so much can be done with one player. This is where Keyboard Kamps come in.
Keyboard Kamps are extra-cirricular programs outside of regular course work. Students are placed in groups of two or three and prepare songs over a short period of time. Each student is taught different parts of several songs. Once these songs are learned well, students play the song together, similar to a rock band.
For example, one student may play the bass line, another student may play the electric piano, and another student can play the strings. The keyboard does the drums and \ the students have the option of adding their own melody line by singing along. All completed, Keyboard Kamp songs are recorded in our studio and each student is given a cassette tape of their creation to take home and show friends and family.
Keyboard Kamps are not limitted to students of our school. Therefore, if one child has other friends that take lessons at another school, they can invited their friends to join in a Keyboard Kamp and learn songs they like. Kamps usually take place in the summer, during school breaks (winter and spring break), over a two or three day period, two hours each day. However, suring the school year, some Kamps run over several weeks, one session a week.
