Since
winning the 1985 Toronto International Bach Competition in her native Canada,
Angela Hewitt has shared her artistry with audiences throughout North America,
Europe, Russia, Australia and the Far East. Her orchestral engagements
have paired her with many of the world's leading ensembles, including London's
Royal Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the
Minnesota Orchestra, the Japan Philharmonic, and virtually all the major
Canadian orchestras. Her discography includes highly praised recordings of Bach for CBC Enterprises, Deutsche Grammophon, and Hyperion, as well as a recital of Spanish piano music for the CBC.
In 1994, Hyperion signed her to record all the keyboard music of Bach, a project that will eventually span 14 discs. The first three of the series — devoted to the French Suites, the Inventions, and the Partitas — have won rave reviews both here and abroad. Ms. Hewitt's most recent recording, featuring the solo piano music of Messiaen, will be released in September 1998.
Two volumes of Bach's keyboard concertos recorded by pianist Angela Hewitt and the Australian Chamber Orchestra debuted on the Billboard classical chart this week at number 20 and number 24.

Angela Hewitt is a highly esteemed pianist, particularly noted as a Bach performer, but accomplished in an exceptionally large repertory that embraces all eras of keyboard music. The daughter of an organist, Hewitt began to study piano at age three, making a public debut at the age of four, winning a scholarship at six, and eventually adding studies in ballet, singing, violin, and recorder.
