- Rimsky-Korsakov
'Capriccio Espagnole'Op 34
Known today by its' mixed Italian and
Spanish title...
This Spanish caprice was orginally a composition for violin and orchestra
from 1887. A fantasy on Spanish themes, Spanish folk songs strung
together in a rondo form. Later it was changed by NR-K to a
strictly orchestral work. FP in St. Petersburg with P. I. Tchaikovsky
listening, he called it a great orchestral masterpiece.
- Rimsky-Korsakov
'Russian Easter' Overture
Composed in 1888, while taking a break from composing 'Scheherazade'.
Themes are from well known parts of the canticles of the Russian Orthodox
church.
- Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade
Composed in 1888. Inspired settings of the magical stories of the Arabian Nights entertainments A Thousand and One Nights.
- Rimsky-Korsakov Snow Maiden opera
Based on slavik folk stories this opera was composed in 1882 and based on a
play of 1873. Tchikovsky wrote incidental music for the play.
- Rimsky-Korsakov Sym No 1
- Rimsky-Korsakov Sym No 2, Antar, Op 9
A symphonic suite, the Antar symphony was composed by Rimsky-Korsakov in
1868. It was heard the following year at a Russian Music Society concert.
It is based on Russian Oriental folklore.
- Rimsky-Korsakov 'Tale of Tsar Saltan' Suite
Music from the opera of 1900 was prepared for a four movement suite by
Rimsky-Korsakov's pupil Maxmillian Steinberg at the request of
Rimsky-Korsakov's widow.
