Based in Jackson, Mississippi, Neilson Hubbard is a singer, songwriter and co-founder of the band, This Living Hand. On his debut solo album, "The Slide Project" released on e pluribus unum, Neilson uncovers his own distinctive sound which is quite different from the atmospheric, moody sounds of This Living Hand. "The idea was to record a casual collection of songs but then it developed into a complete album. I was hesitant at first to make a solo record, but I've found that this is something I really like to do."
"The Slide Project" (originally conceived as the name of the studio band) was produced by Clay Jones, who in addition to being a producer in his own right (Garrison Starr, Tim Lee), also is the other co-founder of This Living Hand. Jones also plays guitar and keyboards on "The Slide Project." All songs are Hubbard originals with able backing provided by Jason Wilkins and Chuck Hatcher of the Nashville combo, Toybean and longtime session drummer Craig Krampf. "These were songs that didn't fit with This Living Hand. The arrangements have much more of a rock feel and a live band sound. I was able to experiment, become more confident and find myself musically. This is a record that's a lot of fun to perform live."
Recorded in Nashville and mixed in Memphis, the album features eleven smart, pop-driven songs. "15 Minutes" and "Everybody's Doin' It" are cantankerous shots at the fickle music biz and the disillusionment that it can create. "Captain of the Teenagers" was inspired by the book Catcher In The Rye and uses the baseball metaphor to "catch people and stop them from trying to be something they aren't." Reflecting on the inevitable comparisons between his solo work and This Living Hand, Neilson comments, "People say that listening to our This Living Hand records makes them feel like it's 3am, regardless of the time on the clock. "The Slide Project" feels much more like deja''vu on a late summer afternoon."

This page was created in late February of 1998 by me, Michael Ellis. I work as a primate proctologist in Zaire, but also keep up web sites for my favorite musicians. Neilson Hubbard is great. He has a great voice, a cool black jacket, and a really nice wife. I really do not work with primates, but I could. Anyway, enjoy my site and please give me any positive, negative, or neutral feedback you can think of. This site is in no way affiliated with Starkist Tuna or any other canned tuna company.
