Airfix made their first set in a flat box with a window. Shortly there after they switched to the more commonly seen #2 brown box. In 1977 they introduced the small 1/2 set box.
2009 Hornsby small box
Now in 2009 Hornby new owner of the old Airfix molds has begun reissuing the WWII sets in small 14 figure boxes. Every pose in a particular set may not be in each box.
MEDIEVAL FIGURES
NAPOLEONIC WARS FIGURES
All original Airfix produced Napoleonics were made in a gray color. About 1990 TSHQ and Present Past had them made in blue, red, green, white and tan. It was discovered that the French Grenadier mold had a second officer never made (white figure top row left in the Grenadier section).
Original Airfix production cavalry and cowboy figures were yellow in color while the Indians were done in a rust redbrown. IMEX made the cavalry in blue in the 1990s. The cowboys have also been made in army green and the Indians in a dull orange and brown. All three sets used the same two horse poses. The mounted cavalryman shooting a rifle was in duplicate as were both of the mounted poses in the Cowboys and Indian sets.
INDIANS
In the 1990s Airfix sold the ten foot Indians in small chip like grab bags. Each bag had six figures made in a dull orange color.
