PREMIUM PREHISTORIC FIGURES
Earlier dinos maybe 25mm in size. These came as prizes in Cracker Jacks as giveaways by Sinclair gasoline, small blister cards and in header card bags with the larger dinosaurs.
1960s giveaway, back when gas was 30 cents a gallon.
Prehistoric Tub, 50+ pieces (colors and pose assortment may differ from above photo). These were from the last production run. (OUT OF STOCK)
Tim-Mee made 6 foot and 6 mounted 70mm Knights plus two different knight horses. Four of the knights came with separate lances that were connected to them in the mold. Of course these all seem to get lost over the years. The mold was made in the 1950s and run through 1964, and then stopped for 1965-67 but then run again from 1968-1972. The mold was then sent to Mexico where it was used into the 1980s.
- Tim-Mee's German factory made the knights in several scales.
- NONE - Pair of 35mm Knights made in Germany.
The horses made at the German factory were more hollowed out than their US counterparts. Probably to save plastic they are unmarked unlike those made at the US factory who are marked as such inside the belly.
Tim-mee made a nice set of eight Robin Hood figures to compliment their knights. The red figure on the lower left with the bag of loot curtesy of Les Gardner. These figures were not offered for sale as many years as the knights and are harder to find. Final year of production was 1964.
PIRATE ITEMS
The Pirate set was available in three sizes. Set #167 as seen above would have about 15 assorted pirates plus the seven piece accessory set. The smaller sets (#497 49 cents and 297 29 cents) contained fewer figures and no accessories. Like most Tim-Mee sets there was no guarantee that each bag would have all of the poses in a set. The mold was last run in 1964 and then sent to Mexico where it was used.
Both treasure chests often have the connecting hinge broken.
At the Tim-Mee factory in Germany they made a new pose of a pirate at the help. Undoubtedly based upon the very similar WWII US Navy helmsman. Red pirate picture courtesy of Eric Johns.
In the mid 1990s Processed Plastic made a new set of pirates which were sold in the little tubs as well as in playsets. The figures are about 50mm and made of stiff plastic.
- Header Card Bag 191, Civil War Soldiers, About 15 blue soldiers, horse, saddle, cannon & paper flag with base, 1958-64 era.
Like the other figures in this era most of these ACW figures are about 70mm in scale with the exception of the mounted officer (top row left) who is closer to 80mm. There are both blue & gray color variations. The molds (two were made) were made about 1960 and run to 1964, but not from 1965-67. They were run again from 1968-73, and one final year in 1978. In 2004 the molds were sold to Wild West Toys in Texas.
Tim-Mee also wholesaled their Civil War and Indian figures to Halsams for inclusion in their Fort America playset. Box lid shows Lido figures but as Lido went out of business in 1964 Halsams must have switched to Tim-mee for figure supply. Although we have see a few sets with Lido figures they usually have the Tim-Mee ones.
The two Tim-Mee ACW figure molds still exist. Each has 15 cavities and at some point (early 1970s we think) the mounted cavalryman shooting rifle was placed in one of the molds. These molds are now owned by Wild West Toys Inc in Texas. Photos of molds courtesy Wild West Toys.
