::Jason Goes Nuts::

No matter how he tried,

He could not break free,

And the worms ate into his brain,

Hey You, standing in the road,

Always doing what your told,

Can you help me?

Hey you, out there beyond the wall,

Breaking bottles in the hall,

Can you help me?

Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all,

Together we stand, divided we fall

Interpretation

A sense of structured environment is shown in the poem

"No matter how he tried, He could not break free"

He wanted to get away from this structure, but couldn’t.

The push against him was too much, but he continued to try to get away.

Pink Floyd is giving us the realization that society cannot be escaped, we are stuck here.

"And the worms ate into his brain" an idle mind is the devils playground.

His mind was open, and then filled with senseless subjects.

The worms show that his brain was penetrable, and not a force that he had to work with.

The author is reaching out for help, to anyone he can see.

"Always doing what your told" a voice to shine light on the fact that there is structure

"Breaking bottles" showing rage, anger associated with the person beyond the wall

"Can you help me?" showing weakness, a cry for help

"The Wall" might incorporate authority, where the person beyond the wall is running free.

Pink Floyd always fights against authority, showing the weakness in structure of "the law"

"Don’t tell me there's no hope at all" showing the author still has the faith. This leads into the next line.

"Together we stand, divided we fall"

This is the most powerful line of the poem, showing that we all have different breaking points.

While the "person" in the story still has his beliefs, there are those who are crumbling around him.

So while there may be a strong following at the begging, society falls like dominoes.
