REVIEW
Yet another book about Maria Callas? This latest biography, by Stelios Galatopoulos, is well worth the read. A close personal friend, he has had access to crucial, previously unreleased material.
This much-anticipated translation of the memoirs of Richard Wagner's great-grandson, Gottfried Wagner, at times gives the uncanny impression of tracing the plot of a Thomas Mann story. After years of alienation and shame exacerbated by the dark anti-Semitic legacy of Bayreuth, Gottfried permanently severed his ties with the family and managed to find a new life of contentment in Italy.
